Since last few days we are facing issues with our Netbackup Drives getting fulled. While we were able to delete the logs from the Netbackup\Logs directory but the logs are getting created quite fastly.

So I thought of changing the Unified Logging for our nb variables but unable to. Is that a problem with our nblog.conf ?

This is happening for nbrb,nbpem,nbjm & nbemm. We have tried restarting NB Services multiple times but with no luck. Any advise. ?

Need help on NDMP failure with error code 84

ALL cifs and nfs streams running successfully. A job with the file names imagenow/osm_01.00001 got failed .What could be a reason for this is similar files from same policy are completed successfully.

Hello. 

Im trying to restore a Exchange2010 database. Getting this error.

Master server: win2k8  with Netbackup Admin console 7.6.0.1

Win2k8 server with the RDB database on - Netbackup client 7.6.0.1

Selecting Point in time recovery - then adressing it to Microsoft Information Store:\RDB

I have tryed to restore from tape and disk. Same result. I have also tryed diffrent MB  ( MB01 - MB10 ), no go. 

Any tips i can try?   I have run this successfully before with no errors. 4-6 months ago.  i have tryed to look up any changes in our envirement but can`t find any changes from last time i did a MB restore....

I'm running NB 7.6 on Linux.
I have a script in which I backup few files, then label and expire 5% of the medias, and eventually I verify some medias.
I have 5GB medias and ~4GB files (None of them is bigger then 5)

The problem occures when trying to verify:

So what happend is I backed up a file, and it splittes over two medias. Then I erased one media, and tries to verify a fragment that it's other half is delted.
I'm looking for a way to backup those files without splitting them over two medias. is there a way to do it? Please notice that I want to verify by media id and not by images.
If not, how can I expire those fragments?

one of our Symantec NetBackup master server indicating  dis pools is full over 94%. we are having  over nine  old catalogs, each one is over 6 months old. I was planing to delete multple old catalogs , in order to create additional space. here is the commands I have used .

While installing the NBU  client binaries on Redhat Linux  machine getting library file issue.

I have set the "KEEP_LOGS_HOURS" value = 192 and "KEEP_LOGS_SUCCESSFUL_HOURS"  VALUE = 192.

Means in activity monitor I can see logs of upto 8 days old (say 01-April-2015 to 08-April-2015).
 

My query is that if I delete the logs of one day say 05-April-2015 from activity monitor then do the logs of 01-April-2015 (oldest) will still be there in activity monitor next day i.e. 09-April-2015 and logs of date 09-April-2015 will be added in activity monitor?

Or only the logs are kept in activity monitor in sequence dates?

One more thing as I deleted the logs of 05-April-2015 from activity monitor then will it also be deleted from the directory "veritas--->netbackup--->db--->jobs" or "error" directory?  Will I be able to restore it from my previous catalog backup which was taken before deleting logs of 05-April-2015 from activity monitor?

Currently we running Netbackup 7.1 on Solaris, Planning to upgrade to 7.5 now.

So my concerns are below :

1) What is the pre-check we need to perform to avoid issues after the upgrade.

2)  In our environment. We have only NDMP backup configured (Local NDMP). So before proceeding with the upgrade Do we need to take any precautions or action items needs to be taken.

About my environment :

• Master server is running on Solaris
• No Media servers
• Destination we have tape library configured.

Please do let me know if you need any more information to help me on this.

my understanding that the upgrade path for NBU 6.0  to 7.6.1.1 goes from 6.0 to 7.6 first and then from 7.6 to 7.6.1.1, based on sort search.

Customer ask to upgrade NBU from 6.5 to 7.6.1.1 directly on Solaris 10 (sparc), is this possible?

Just a couple of questions with regard to using the VADP backups with VMWare and the SQL option.

• Which ports does it require for backup when using ASC part of the backup? Is just 1556 to master & media servers sufficient or will it need any extra ones? We have an extra secure client and getting all port requirements is a must to save hassle further down the line.
• What are peoples experiencing with using this method to backup SQL? Does it only work well for smaller, less busy SQL servers? Or is it tried and tested for even the busiest SQL servers that are VMs? I know in the slightly distant past i had issues with standard VMWare quiescing of VMs, but I'm not sure if the Symantec VSS agent has overcome that. This is my first venture into the application protection side of VADP backups.

I have a load of DBAs in the company who are paranoid to the extreme with quiescing VM SQL servers when their disks are not set to independent in vCenter. They think their world will end if i do it and it will all come crashing down and just need to reassure them it's not the case (i hope!). So i just want a bit of ammunition and real world experiences people may have so i can try and persuade them it's the way forward. It's not something i have personally had the experience of using myself yet, but it looks like a good way forward. They currently are stuck in the 20th century doing SQL maintenance plan backups to disk and i want to bring them forward to the 21st century way of doing things.

Hello I'm new to netbackup after 5 years with HP Data Protector and I have some real concerns about write to disk performance.

It appears that we have queues waiting for the block to empty so we can write to disk.

we dont use SQL agents our DBA's want to do flat file backups which was a problem for HP and i was wondering if this could be the same issue where netbackup doesnt like millions of 10k files or 400gb + flatfile backups

could someone give me any idea where i should look to find out if this is the case

I am in the process of configuring NDMP backups against a NetApp cluster using the node-scope-mode enabled option set to on. When I add the NDMP host in the NetBackup console, I can only add it by IP address. If I try and add the hostname, it reverts to the IP address when I save it. Is there any way around this? The hostname is in DNS and I've tried using host file entries on the master and media servers as well. If I use the IP address, the backup runs successfully, but I don't want to be stuck with an IP address for a host when it comes to restores. 

We are getting ready to stand up a new Master server with different hostname than current.  Can we use Recovery without Import process to transder client backup images without having to import hundreds of tapes (and without having to engage professional services) ?

I have mounted a directory from AIX server to linux server & iniiated the backup from linux but i get error 69 invalid file set .

The AIX server directory has got only the tar files

Are there options like eject or mount media for a stand alone drive on Netbackup ?

I'm asking because after I inserted a new tape, the media id is still showing as the previous one.

In networker when we eject and insert a new tape we have to manually mount the tape from Networker console. Is this automated on Netbackup ?

Also please let me know what does the following options do when I right click on the drive  :-

Up Drive

Down Drive

Reset Drive

Settings >> Reload from default.

I have an issue with oracle database backups which is in active active cluster. The details below

Nodename : Node1                                                          Nodename : Node2

Oracle cluster name : Orclus1                                          Oracle cluster name : Oraclus2

databases : oradb1 & oradb2                                            databases : oradb3 & oradb4

Node1 & Node2 are in active active cluster and  oracle cluster names are Oraclus1 & Oraclus2

At present Node1 have Oraclus1 and Node2 have Oraclus2. Incase of one node failure both oracle clusters would be in single node.

I have created two policy for each oracle cluster and keep the client name as oracle cluster name. When i start the backup first it failed because backup was triggeting with nodename. so i changed client_name in the bp.conf file as the oracle cluster name. After this my backup completed successfully. I have done this on bothe the nodes. So in Node1 bp.conf file CLient_Name : Oraclus1 and in Node2 bp.conf file Client_Name : Oraclus2

But when Node2 down and Oraclus2 moved to Node1, Node1 have both Oraclus1 & Oraclus2. In this situation when backup triggered for Oraclus2 policy it would fail because in the Node1 bp.conf file have Client_Name is Oraclus1.

How to overcome this ?
