Netbackup and hosts files

I have just taken over the netbackup administration from a guy who just left . I noticed the use of host files If DNS works correctly then there would be no need for fudges like HOSTS files, it’s not the 1980s. and we have a very large environment so makes it unscalable

Just curious to know how you all have it configured and how best to get rid of the  hosts files
