CIF as a backup target
Windows 2008r2 Master and Media servers, Isilon storage
Hello again, all.
Im trying something that I never have yet, and am having little luck. Yet, I cant imagine this being a complicated configuration. I need to temporarily send backups to a CIF share that was created for me on an Isilon box and I have full access to the share. My backups usually go to DataDomain disk pools/storage units.
The thing is that im finding article after article on how to back up a CIF share, but not backup data TO a CIF share. I beleive I have to start by creating a storage unit that points to the location to which I want to send the backups, but thats where I'm getting stopped, and pretty sure Im missing steps. Ive named the new stiorage unit, selected disk as the storage unit type, BasicDisk as disk type(??), selected a media server I want it to use, entered the absolute path, but I cannot view the properties of the location. I just get that "Error reading volume information.STS API failed. Status 228", which leads me to believe I'm heading in entirely the wrong direction. Is anyone out there sending backups directly to a CIF share, and can shed some light on this for me? I'll provide whatever information needed about my current setup.
Thank you!!!
Todd
Only 4 drives are being used instead of 5 drives
Hi Everyone,
This is my first post in the forum.
Environment Details:
One Master/ Media server and two media servers.
Out of the two media servers, one uses a DELL ML6040 FC tape library. There are 5 FC tape drives present in the library which are not shared with other media servers.
DSSU starts duplication jobs for this media server but only 4 tape drives are being used and one is left free always.
This left tape drive is not the same. It shuffles across different tape drives.
DSSU is done using media manager created using a storage unit group.
Maximum concurrent write drives : 5
Maxmimum stream per drive: 8
MDS allocation is done only for 4 drives at any particular time.
bpstulist for robot storage unit group.
Label: XXXXXXXXX
Storage Unit Type: Media Manager
Host Connection: XXXXXXXXX
Number of Drives: 5
On Demand Only: no
Max MPX/drive: 8
Density: hcart3 - 1/2 Inch Cartridge 3
Robot Type/Number: TLD / 0
Max Fragment Size: 1048576 MB
Staging storage units point to the right media server in "Host connection"
nbrbutil -resetmediaserver <mediaserver> and ltid deamon was reset.
Kindly help me in resolving the issue.

Unable to view media tab in Java Console
OS:- Solaris
Clustered Master Server
We are having issue where we are unable to check the media tab from Java Console. As soon as we click on Media Tab we get the error
"Xonnection coould not be established timed out while making the connection verify the services or daemon are working fine"
I had verified all the daemons are UP and backups are working fine.We are able to view the content of library fine from GUI by running the inventory robot, also through CLI we are able to get all the information from bpmedia, vmquery, bpmedialist. Only problem we are having with Media Tab access vie GUI
We had also restarted the NBU but still we are unable to access it.
Restore from tape
It has been over 10 months since I have used NetBackUp. I am out of touch with the trouble shooting process. Our old file servers from which the backups were created have been decommissioned. I need to restore a folder from a backup tape. I have the backup tapes I added them to the library and did an inventory. I then started Backup, Archieve and Restore. From FILE>SPECIFY NETBACKUP MACHINE AND POLICY TYPE I selected the following as per FIG 1. I started the restore with these settings in FIG 2. I get the following as per FIG 3.
I need immediate help as the tapes are due to expire after 5 hours.
Manually deleting images, catalog has no record of
I have about 4.5 TB on a basic disk storage unit that isnt valid I just discovered. The partition is 7TB used for Server_Diff storage. This storage unit is for Diffs only and actively being written too without issue. I notice these images are not listed in the catalog for the clients. I did a search and didnt see anything identical to this issue in the forms. If I delete these images manually is this going to cause any issues. My thought is no based on my understanding, but I would love a more knowledgeable confirmation. Thanks.
EDIT: The images here shouldnt be older than 2 weeks based on retention. Some are 2-3 months old.
Enable client-side dedupe on a subset of clients
I'm running Netbackup 7.5 in a Windows environment. I have lots of Windows clients running backups to a Media Server Deduplication Pool and all the deduplication is happening on the media server. I have a single master server.
I have a remote office with 6 or 7 Windows servers that currently has its own media server and tape library but soon will have neither. I will need to back them up to my local dedupe disk pool over the network. Seems a good situation to enable client-side dedupe on those 6 or 7 servers.
From what I can tell I need to go into the Properties of the Master Server under Host Properties. Then under Client Attributes I make the change under Deduplication Location from 'Always use the media server' to 'Prefer to use client-side deduplication' (or Always use ...).
Since I only have one master server this is pretty much a global change, right? I can go to each policy and check the 'disable client-side deduplication' box but that's a lot more work than just enabling client-side deduplication for a few servers.
How do I enable client-side deduplication for just a handful of clients? If I change the Deduplication Location in the Client Attributes of the Host Properties does it just apply to the clients listed in the client list or does it apply to all the clients of that master server?
Thanks a million.
Question about forced rescan
Hi all,
Using nbu 7.6 as master/media server, and Windows2k8 client.
A CIFS share (30 million files) is backed up with Accelerator enabled.
I can see forced rescan is automatically used for some backups, even I don't enable it in the schedule.
Is it a bug?

Netbackup 7.1.0.2 support for RHEL
Hello,
I've been trying to find out which version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.1.0.2 is able to support? I've been looking through the software compatibility list and I am not clear based on the information provided.
For example in the NBU_76_SCL.pdf that I downloaded, it mentioned the Red Hat Enterprise 6 is supported with Minimum Netbackup 7.1.
Which version of RHEL or kernel level is supported by 7.1.0.2 ?
I am being asked whether our current Netbackup system 7.1.0.2 is able to support the below version.
- RHEL 6
- RHEL 6.3
- RHEL 6.6 and
- RHEL 7.1
Please help.
Thanks
Chan
Duplication to MSDP ends with: media write error (84)
Strange issue. Duplicaiton of a single backup image is failing to MSDP. Consistent failure mode. Strange thing is - it is a *single* VMware backup image... no issues with any other VMware images or any other types of images.
Environment:
- Solaris 10 master v. 7.6.1
- Symantec 5220 Appliance media servers v. 2.6.1
- Backup to Advanced Disk -> duplication to MSDP and tape

Master server reject connections-Adding trusted server
Dear all,
I'm trying to add a trusted master server but the following warning appears:
Although the master server specified is now identified as a trusted master server , a secure exchange was not made between these two hosts. This is because one of the master servers is rejecting connections. Please refer to the logs for further troubleshooting. After resolving the issue you need to reconfigure the trusted server. (5680)
I cann add a replication target server but doesn't allow to create SLP replication (access is denied 117).

As suggested in the forums, i've checked the host files in both servers and they're ok. also resolution works.
bp.conf contains the entries in both servers.

Netbackup - Not able to backup DFSR folder individually
Hi All,
Currently i have a client thats run DFSR service with total data size ~2TB. The current policy is set to backup the root folder of DFSR which is taking ~3.5 days. Therefore, i have created a new policy (duplicate of existing policy) and in the backup selection list, i have added DFS shares individually to enable the multi-stream. However, when i run the backup, only 3/4 folders is succesffull and the rest ended with error "71 - none of the files in the file list exist"
Could someone advice me if i have missed anything?
Existing Policy - Backup List:

New Policy - Backup List:

Quantum Scalar i500 Tape Library
Hi,
If I'll be adding Quantum Scalar i500 Tape Library, I just need to use the Device Configuration Wizard, right?
Can you include some best practices?
Thanks!
