We are planning to upgrade our master server which is running on Netbackup 7.5.0.6.
This is a Linux Master Server also working as a media server.
Kindly share the documents and tech note that we can refer to upgrade this Master/Media server.
Also we are using datadomain as the final storage . Do we need to upgrade the OST also?
For some reason that I have been unable to diagnose the drive keeps crashing on my Imation Tape Library when conducting Backups with error codes of 910, 912, 913, and 915. Most of the files are backed up but it show as a red error and downs the drive which I have to manually restart the server or try and restart the drive.
I have a client that I am contracting for that regularly (every few weeks) shuts down all Netbackup services on all Master & Media servers at their location and then reboots each of the servers. The environment is 7.1.0.3 Master and Media servers, three servers backup to a Data Domain and the other three backup to MSDP pools located on each of the three servers. This is what they consider "maintenence". The reboot of the media servers with the MSDP pools take a tremendous amount of time as the pools are very close to their 20TB capacity. This process takes at least 6 hours - bpdown, reboot and bpup. Spoold and spad are set to be started manually. This whole process takes up a tremendous amount of valuable time as we are VERY close to the technical limit of starting one job every second so every second a server is down leaves us trying to catchup with the workload that floods into the systesm every day.
My question is - Are we gaining any benefit whatsoever from doing this process every other week?

we have a situation where we see sanclient backups fail with 83 error after recycling/reboot of few of linux mediaservers on some sites..but this is not the situation in other sites...backups running good even after recycling/reboot of mediaservers here.
we need to recycle san client ft services every time to get backups running....
master ----7.5.0.6 linux
media -----7.5.0.6 linux
client ------7.1.0.3 linux especially.....

Does somebody know if the number of concurrent jobs at the same time has changed from NBU 7.5.0.6 to 7.6.0.2?
For 7.5.0.6 the maximum concurrent jobs per second that can be generated is one. So, it is 86400 jobs per day.

My server is 2008R2 64 bit with domain.
I always failed to restore OS from tape by NBU, which steps I was wrong, please help!!
1. Reinstall 2008R2, the hostname is a new one.
2. Join domain
3. Install NBU
4. Restore OS from tapes.
The broken one is called Test1, the new installed one is called Test2, I can restore OS from tapes(Test1 OS) to new OS(Test2)?
If the broken one is enterprise, I still can install standard then do restore?

Hi Guys, I have one windows 2008 media server with Netbackup 7.6.0.2 installed. I got new tape library TS3500 with 273 slots activated and 8 tape drives.
I have zoned first 4 drives with this media server and I am able to see on device monitor. I have installed required TS3500 tape library drivers on the server from http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=ssg1S7002972 link.
However I am able to see only 64 slots out of 273 from Netbackup. Same result is from Scan command and robtest command. Not sure what is wrong. From IBM side tape library is fully operational and no license issues etc. Also I don't have any partioning here. It's brand new tape library.

I have 2 tapes each of 1600GB capacity, one is 990GB (000093) full and other is only 20GB (000056) occupied, I need to copy this 20GB data to other tape which is 990GB occupied.
I understand from readings that in netbackup images are duplicated not tapes, I am ok with it, I will duplicate with image id's but I want copy to go to tape which I mention, Is there a way I can duplicated data to tape I wish?
In short How can I move complete data from tape xyz123 to abc123?

Only C:\ drive backup is happening.

Policy Type :- Hyper-V

My environment is new hence no logging is there. Master server 2008 and client is solaris netbackup 7.6. We are restoring something in oracle . So need dbclient logs.I have created dbclient dir in under logs. and its a user directed restore. restoration is happening but there is no logs under dbclinet.
Pls help. What changes do i need to make?

Now our client wants to do the retention periord to 1 year. So i have below questions.
1:- Should i change the retention period in each policy? Procedure?
2:- Any dos and donts for this?
3:- what are the prerequisite to change this?

We have SL 150 Library with 8 Drives and 350 clients. Whenever other team asks for the restoration, backups are running due to restoration takes time for even small smallfiles as drives are full at that time. So my question is what is the solution for this and best practise?

I am starting with VIP and I will like to know if someone know a simple way to control the number of virtual machines that are in a VIP.
I don't want to back up more than 80 virtual machines in each policy, but I don't know how can I control this.
At first I though to add a "counter" in "Annotations" to do this, but I cannot do this because of some performances.
Has somebody already did this or can somebody give me a clue?

I hope someone can assist to point me what do I need to check / adjust in our NBU setup. The issue is when we perform a restore using BAR GUI on the client, and choose Restore to a different location (maintain existing structure) - restores are successful but some clients do not maintain the original folder structure. In other words, the "end" files were restored to the specified location, but the original folders that contained those files were not restored.
Some info that might help you understand what's involved:
- Master (is the Media server too) server is running 7.6.0.2, configured with MSDP.
- All clients are running Windows 2008 Standard with NBU 7.6.0.2 (with the same patches applied, all of them have the same roles too, and all are remote clients backed up through WAN).
- Client side dedupe is ON with Accelerator.

There are two netbackup master servers in our environment. One is with 6.5.3 referrred as old master server and another one is with 7.6.0.1 referred as new master server.
We have recently migrated from old master server to new master server. We have about 30 tapes that need to be migrated into the new catalog ( 30 tapeswhich were used in the old master server
May I know the steps that need to be followed?

Hello everybody, I have this annoyng problem with my Netbackup administration console. After change of username our admin says my new account is created with all privileges required and still I receive 'access denied' on all items in console and can't do anything. Could it be on my, client side?
