Net backup email Notification -Not working

I need a solution

Dear Team,

I have cofigured a netbackup server to backup up 2 clients. The customer needs email notification to be sent on exit. I have followed the all the procedure as per link

The mail has been tested by simply using blat command. Also, mails are going when using nbmail.cmd directly also. However the mail is not getting send by netbackup exit.

Having advised by another thread in this forum, I have configured backup_exit_notify sciript and now I am receiving mail but it is not very informative.

Here is the mail content I am receiving now.

bplist running in bpend script not finding files

I need a solution

In 7.5.0.6 my bpend notify script runs bplist to verify files were backed up successfully. However, immediately after the job finishes, only some files are being reported. Running bplist later works fine. Is there a delay between job completion and catalog update?  It was my impression that the bpend script runs after catalog udpate?

Media server and clients in the cloud

I need a solution

I am playing around with possible configurations of Netbackup 7.5 in our cloud environment. I am currently looking at a master server with a public ip while having a media server and clients behind a firewall in the cloud. opening the required ports from master to media should suffice as the media servers will be limited and a few public interfaces will have to be created, however doing the same for clients will mean an excessive amount of public network interfaces must be created and I want to avoid this situation. I thus need to determine if it is possible to not open ports to/from the client to/from the master server and maybe use the media server as a proxy?

 

This is purely for testing purposes and all suggestions are welcome.

SLP jobs appear to be stuck

Now may I say in advance, this may be my own fault...

We have 7.6.0.3, and I was testing out setting up a SLP window. Some of the jobs were failing with 196, not having enough time to run during the window I had specified; and rather than mess with it more, I put the SLP that had been pointing to the window back to the default 24x7 window...

Now when I run this command...

... I have a couple dozen SLP copy jobs that are "stuck" there. I believe this is because they are looking to run during that window; but that window is no longer assigned to the specified SLP.

I could open a ticket for this, but I figured it was something simple I could resolve on my own with some forum help... thanks to all in advance.

What is the best way to take a catalog backup, keep a copy onsite and send one offsite? I read in the forums here that a duplicated tape is not valid for a catalog restore.

Cannot Delete an SLP in NBU 7602

I need a solution

I am in the process of removing an MSDP pool in order to create it properly, and have stepped through this OK on one Domain / Server but am having difficulty on another Domain / Server.

I have expired all images on the pool, and removed all but 1 of the SLP's successfully.  The one remaining is an IMPORT SLP, and it says it has two associated backup images which are NOT MANAGED.  I get a status 1519 when I try and delete the SLP.

When I run the 'nbstlutil stlilist -U -lifecycle lifecycle-name' it returns two backup_id's and states they are NOT_MANAGED

An 'nbstlutil report' returns no output, and I have tried the following also:

nbstlutil cancel -backupid backup-id-name

bpexpdate -backupid backup-id-name -force_not_complete

 

II cannot seem to get rid of these images, and cannot therefore delete the SLP - which is stopping me from removeing the storage unit, disk pool, storage server etc etc.

Any ideas ?

nbdecommission command question.

Hi,

Can I use nbdecommission command (-oldserver, -newserver attributes) in order to change the active network hostname of a netbackup 6.5.6. netbackup media server installation on a media server connected to two networks (public, backup)? For example, the media server was installed using the backup network hostname of the server and I want to change it to use the public network hostname of that media server. If not, which is the correct procedure to use in order to avoid tape import if possible?

I need a solution

/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/update_clients script is required as i am not finding in my netbackup master server in the above mentioned path.
We are in a situation to update all the clients from 6.x to 7.x as the master server is in 7.x

can i contain tape usage in a pool?

NBU 7.5.05

i learned something new today. tape pools.

if i create a tape pool and assign, let's say, 2 tape cartridges to it, can i control my backup policy to use only those tapes in that pool? if yes, should the pool run out of availables tape cartridges, will the policy wait for the pool to be replenished or will it fault?

reason is i want to be able to tell, physically, that tape labels ABC and DEF are used only for databases. because at the moment, my backups are spread out across multiple tape cartridges and as such difficult to tell which cartridge holds what data from which server.

Hello,

I am testing "Backup to the Cloud" in our company.

We have Symantec NetBackup 7.6.0.2 on Solaris 10 and EMC/Atmos Storage v 2.1.6 ...

Question 1: Is NetBackup 100% compatible with the EMC/Atmos Storage interface using the Amazon S3 or AT&T Synaptic method?

Question 2: Did anyone succeed in establishing a good-working backup/restore-mechanism using this method?

My test szenario1: I was able to create a Cloud Storage Server in S3-compatible mode, but I couldn't create a volume with NetBackup. I get the error message:

"RDSM has encountered an STS error: createDiskVolume
failed to create disk volume, system call failed"

There seems to be a kind of "communication mismatch" between NBU and the EMC/Atmos storage system. By the way, writing Backups directly to S3-Amazon.com worked fine, but this is not the solution for us.

My test szenario2: Writing to EMC/Atmos via the AT&T Synaptic method seemed to work fine. Backups were created during my vacation in August, but the restores seemed to be very slooooooow. Ok, I tried to delete/expire the backup images and I have found out, that "someone" :) created nearly 2 millions very small files, each around 10k or something. Is this NBU's fault? Or Atmos' fault? Now I have the problem that - although I expired all the "backup2cloud"-images correctly - I can't delete neither the stu nor disk pool nor cloud storage server because NBU tells me that there are images to delete... §$%&/( Now I have installed the AtmosFox-Explorer plug-in for Firefox and delete all the images manually, but this seems to be a neverending story...

So... anyone out there who experienced the same behaviour?

the restore jobs completed BUT the following message came up on Target system:

"Unable to make Registry modification required to boot the system"

 

System cannot be booted.

When using BPEXPDATE -deassignempty, does this take a tape which no longer contains a valid image and mark it as scratch?  The description in the command guide is not clear about this - at least to me.

Hi All,

I am new for netbackup kindly help me for configuring this application.

We have netbackup 7.6.0.3 on Win server 2012 R2 Std.

We have done the basic configuration for netbackup.

Also done the vCenter configuration, backup job and restoration tested for vCenter.

But my main problem is that:

We have AIX server which has Lotus Notes and SAP.

Kindly let me know which binary i should install to take backup of Lotus Notes and SAP.

There are many installable there on site but i don’t understand which one to use, below is snap of the list of binary pls have look and advice the same.

Policy deletion

Hi,

   Is there any issue while i am restoring a database(Sql/Oracle) or Exchange db or  VMWare image if i delete the original policies from netbackup that it backed up.

I have a plan to do some hosue keeping so going to delete some old policies which was using earlier. I tried it for filesystem backups and found without the original policy i am able to restore but not sure about the database restore.

Netbackup 7.5.0.7 with Accelerator using Netapp volume as storage unit?

Hi all,

I've got a Netapp with a bunch of unused space which I've carved a cifs share volume.  I've added that as a storage unit to our Netabckup master server.

I'm wondering if I can use Accelerator for that storage unit.  When I enabled it, it popped up with the message:

To use the accelerator, select storage units from a supported storage server:
PureDisk Deduplication (PDDO), Media Server Deduplication (MSDP), Symantec clouds, and other qualified storage servers.
Currently configured and supported storage servers are:

Is there something I can tweak to make this work?
