I use netbackup 7.5.x and use the Netbakcup Vault option to make a second copy and send the second copy tapes to offsite for storage.
my question is
is there a way to password protect the tapes which are send offsite, reason for this question is " how to protect my data in case some one gets hold of the tapes while in transit"

currently we are running NBU 7.0.1 on 2k3 & 2k8 machines, we are having around 30 Master servers which are not having more than 3 clients, only 2 Masters are backingup 20 clients.now we had license for 7.6 whcih includes MSDP & dedup, now my client wants to make all master servers as media servers which will have storage attached to make as MSDP and maintain only 1 centralised master server, and our Long term retention is 3 months. now how can i configure the same setup? is it possible only by moving Catalag DB to new master server? if yes please help to route in correct way.
I have a FETB license of 5 TB and also have traditional licenses like std client, Tapelibrary etc.
How this FETB works along with traditional licenses?
Whether FETB is only for Puredisk?
Whether FETB is applicable if I take the backups in Tape drives, VTL and basic disks?
As per my understanding FETB is for raw data which is protected by Netbackup not the Deduplicated data. is it right?

I would be grateful if someone could help shed some light on this issue that i'm having. I have several policies to back up virtual machines. It seems that for some of the clients the backup times out and retries for second time. The problem that I have is that the first time the job errors with error 23 status 6 then ten minutes later tries again and this time succeeds. What can I do to fix this behaviour as I end up reviewing all the jobs and manually removing the entries for the "failed" ones. Is it possible to get it to only "fail" when it's actually completely failed to complete the backup rather than misleading me into thinking that the job has failed when it succeeded the second time.
You should generate the Lost Media Report regularly so you can recall media that has not been returned from the offsite vault vendor but which should have been returned.
Media can get stranded at the offsite vault for the following reasons:
Frozen backup tapes never expire. A backup tape that does not expire does not appear on the Picking List for Vault and is not be recalled from the vault.
A backup tape appears on the Picking List for Vault and Distribution List for Robot only once. If a tape from that report is missed and is not returned to the robot, it never again is listed for recall.
You change offsite volume group or pool names. For example, if you begin to use a new media type, you have to use a new volume pool name. If you change names, media may be stranded offsite because the Picking List for Vault is based on offsite volume pools and offsite volume groups. Media associated with the old names is not be listed.
Symantec recommends that you do not change or rename group or pool names.
How often you generate the Lost Media Report depends on your operations. Weekly or monthly may be often enough.
Is there a way to get this report generated either from NBU GUI or CMD ??/

We are experencing the below issue with our SL150 library
tld0 cannot dismount drivex slotx already full. Let me tell you that it has 8 drives and we all drives gets down frequently and tapes get stuck on it for long time.
We didnot move tapes physically and didnot do anything with the library. Its not the issue when tape is inside the drive and somebody moves the tapes.
Pls suggest.
I have a script that runs bpdbjobs -all_columns and parses the output based on being comma delimited. But now I run into problems when I see that sometimes a column contains commas:

So the single column gets split into multiple columns at the commas.
Anyone have a good solution for this?

Running NBU 7.6.0.1 on RHEL 6.3 single Master server with a Scalar i80 four drive library. Backing up Windows and Linux servers, Oracle, Exchange and File backups. While the backups are super efficient with multiplexing, the network bonding and functionality with Linux seems very weak. Maybe its just RHEL 6.3.
Considering migrating to a Windows 2012 R2 Master server. I've done a Unix to Linux recovery/migration/upgrade and had no issues.
Question 1: Is the the process the same when restoring the catalog backup from a Linux Master server to a Windows master server as it would be for Linux to Linux recovery or hardware change? I see several articles for same OS recovery but not a cross OS recovery. Anyone have a link?
Question 2: Anyone that is running NBU 7.6.0.1 or higher on Windows 2012 R2, curious if there would be anything you'd consider a deal-breaker.

I create a 4 SUs : 3 SU is disk - basicdisk, 1 SU is MediaManager - tape.
When I create a SLP: In step : New Storage Operation > Properties. Operation = Backup. In Destination Storage Attributes>Destination drop box
=> It only show SU from MediaManager - tape while other SU didn't show.
I read documents about SLP and find there is no requirement for SU in SLP.
Is it something problem or I am missing some configuration steps?

Master/Media is on Solaris 11 Sparc with NBU 7.6.0.1.
Client is W2K8 Ent. 64 Bit
Oracle export dump which is done on the client server by dba needs to be restored (.dmp).
While performing the restore the process gets dead slow and for restoring small data it takes more than 2 days.
Can you suggest any action plan/ solution for this problem.

My friday back is failed. I have run manual back up. I dont know after successful completion of 80% i am getting below error.

I've got one shared tape library which is used by Master Server and few Media Servers.
Media servers has no problems with backup jobs, but backup jobs from master servers stops in Mounting / Connecting state.
All policies uses the same tapes and drives, so I think that problem is only by master server side.
Could anyone tell me, how can I troubleshoot problem with my Master Server, what logs should I check, etc.

I'm looking for large files on one server to clean, and I discover in c:\program files\Veritas\NetBackup\logs\user_ops\nbjlogs one file called jbp.082014122945,35.log. with 8GB.
I don't know what is this file and if I can delete.

Backup failing with error code 25 as cannot connect to socket. Backups running too slow may take 2 to 3 days and is still running and results with the failure.

I would like to increase the number of bpbkar log files. Currently the solaris client keeps only 3 files, and thay are not enough. The logs get filled rapidly, and I can get only a few hours of information. When I come back the following day, I have only a few hours left on the logs.
I have increased the days to keep logs to 6.
I've read several TN regarding logs configuration, and the one that gives me a clue about what to do, says:
To change the maximum file size or the maximum number of log files per directory, use the MaxLogFileSizeKB and the NumberOfLogFiles options. These options are part of the vxlogcfg command, which is located in the following directory:

install_path\NetBackup\binUse the following example to set the maximum file size to 2048 and the maximum number of log files per log directory to 10:

I was wondering how can I increase the Number of log files for just the BPBKAR and not for all logs. Is there a way of doing it?

Can anyone tell me if they are successfully backing up mapped drives Fibre Transport from a SAN client?. I have a NetApp cifs share mapped to a SAN client and want to back this up - I don't want to use NDMP as I want to use NetBackup accelerator.
The issue I have is that SAN client needs the client service to run under Local System and the mapped drive needs the client to run under a domain account with access to the share..... Is this an unsummountable problem or can I configure something that will allow me to do this?
