Once again I am trying to solve a problem with vmware backup. The enviroment is as follow.

The master server is running on Redhat
Netbackup version is 7.5.0.6
I have 9 ESXs servers that share 15 Storage LUNs. Those LUNs are mapped to every ESX via 4 paths.
The Backup Host we are using is the Master Server, so it has been mapped  to the 15 LUNs vmware datastore via the same number of paths (four)
When i try to run backups i got the following error number: Error bpbrm (pid=6462) from client XXX: ERR - Error opening the snapshot disks using given transport mode: Status 23

Because in the NetBackup-7x-in-virtual-environments_Sept_9_2014_update (http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/linux-vmwar...) i found that for a Linux backup host that is not a NetBackup appliance, NetBackup for VMware is unable to support DMP.   I have mounted a VMware Workstation laboratory as the same production enviroment to verify and identify the root cause of the problem. So, on the lab i have zonned and mapped the ESX datastore from two different paths over iscsi on the master server running on RedHat 6.3, when i run the backup it works.

The next step to solve the problem is trying to map the vmware datastore luns using single path to the master server but i have been asked to be sure doing  so the problem is going to be solved.

We have a sever that hosts an app that uses a RAW disk to store data. The standard windows filesystem "all local drives" policy fails as it cannot access the drive. Even the OS complains about the drive not being accessible.

It looks like taking a image of a RAW partition isn't possible:

P687 of Symantec NetBackupTM Administrator's Guide, Volume I - "NetBackup does not support raw partition backups on unformatted partitions."

I was just looking for confirmation that am understanding this correctly and that there are no clever work a rounds that anybody has worked out.

From the media/master server:

- tpautoconf -verify media_server completes successfully.

- I can telnet to the netapp filer on port 10000 successfully.

There is no record on the netapp filer of an NDMP session attempting to start so I'm presuming the issue is with the netbackup server.

Any ideas?

Also what would be the best approch to backup SQL cluster via VMWARE policy type, if clusetr is of two node type.

I restoring a full + differential backup following Page 75 AdminGui SQL Win. It mention to restore a full + different, I just need to click one time.

Master/Media : Redhat 5 x64

Client: Windows Server 2008 x64, SQL Server 2008

Then I met this problem: 

"RESTORE can only create a database when restoring either a full backup or a file of backup of primary file"

I try to restore full first, then restore different then, db restore completely. But it were not mention in document. Is this a bug of production or I miss some config step.

in our envirnoment we have 6 LTO 4 drives we are planning to add another 6 LTO 5 drives. but we will still be using LTO 4 cartridges (hcart in netbackup). My question is can I just use a storage unit hcart with 12 drives?

I am not able to see my last week backup on Netbackup master server. Is that image clean up clear all jobs from master server.

I need to see/remain last 60 days backup job on server.

Also keeping 60 day job details on server will create any problem.

When I run an Images On Tape report for some old LTO3 tapes, some are coming back with "no entity was found (Status 227)".

I've done some research, and this particular status code seems to be somewhat vague.

Does anyone know what this status code means in this case ?

I am running Netbackup on a RHEL6 server using Version 7.6 of Netbackup. When I start the administration console I get the login window but while the mouse works fine I can not enter either a user name or password.

Has anyone seen this issue before ?

Hello Experts,

We have environment as below.

Master server 2008 server with 7.6.0.2 and VMhost for vmware is Win2008 R2 server. Its not media server.

1:-Can we have 2 VMhost servers? One for load balancing on other Windows server with NBU client installation? Any configuration?

2:Can we have our Media server as backup host? Any configuration is required for that?

I have an issue restore Exchange Information Store and transaction logs.

Master/Media and client running 7.5.0.7 on Windows 2008 R2

Exchange is 2010 running on Windows2008 R2

I select the Full Exchange backup for the Information Store -  size is 361539480 kb (as reported in NetBackup BAR window)

I select multiple transaction log backups - total size is  3GB

I have a 600GB drive to restore the files to - dedicated to exchange restores and empty.

Restore continues to fail - Restore size reported in Activity Monitor is over 1TB.

Does anybody know why this is occurring?

I have a system that has been doing backup to Data domains only and we will start now doing backups to tape for clients that require extended retention beyon the DDs... What would be you recommendations to size tape library drive and tape count? I baisically need to know what library model, numbver of drives and number of tapes.

What Data should I exactly be looking at?

The backups to tape will run once a month and will be offsited for extended retention right after they complete.

DHCP is disabled, IP configured manually.
results from client bpclntcmd -pn results successfully.
master and client version :7.6.0.1.
Name resolution done through DNS entry.

My BMR has failed with word [Failed to verify backup, rc=131] when restore on Vsphere VMware Client. More information as below

- I boot client with image from shared resource tree. Client is a new existing on Vsphere that haven't installed any OS before.

- Already change MAC Address and IP Address. This is a test of BMR restoration plan, so the source of BMR is still online on Network.

I have a VMware policy configured using annotation query to select clients.

Yesterday one of the clients failed with a status code of 156.

Last night the same client completed successfully.

I noticed in the detailed status, I have error's relating to resource.

I have linux NBU clients. I want to stop ntpd before starting backup on the linux client.

I wrote bpstart_notify

The bpstart_notify can run echo, but
cannot run /etc/init.d/ntpd stop. Why?

Please tell me how to work.
