oracle backup problem when we migrate client networker to netbackup

Hi All,

 

our customer previously used networker now we change the backup software networker to netbackup.  but some of he oracle clients we get a this error ;

 

RMAN-00571: ===========================================================

ORA-27028: skgfqcre: sbtbackup returned error

ORA-19511: Error received from media manager layer, error text:

   Exceeded the number of retries. The NetWorker server may be down or unreachable

 

we removed the networker symbolic links and successfully execute the netbackup oracle_link but when we execute the backup i still try to reach networker environment.

NB_CLT_7.5.0.4.tar missing a binary file?

I need a solution

I just did a fresh NBU 7.5 install for a Master server on RHEL 6.  I'm trying to patch the server to 7.5.0.4 but the tar file appears to be missing a binary file.

NB_CLT_7.5.0.4.tar from http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag... (3 split files)

I combine the 3 split files and run the tar command to extract the files.  I run NB_update.install script, but it kicks back an error message "ERROR: Missing required files in [current directory]: VrtsNB_7.5.0.4.preuninstall.  Viewing the contents of the tar file confirms that VrtsNB_7.5.0.4preuninstall does not exist in the tar.

Is this just a generic file that I could grab and use from a similar system/server's set of patch files?

how to restore from tape if master & media server is different through netbackup

I need a solution

I have to restore data to another location from tape which is having the backup data.But situation is like this:

The Master & Media Server is different and also hostname different, IP different.

The fresh new Master & Media Server is connected new Liberary.I have inserted that tape in it & robot has reconisged bar code. Now how to restore data from it either on the same client's backup or on different client using the new server.

Note: Both Old & New server are NOT in cluster, they are seperately individual.

Please provide me expert advice and suggestion to pursue this activity.

Can't restore Evault data from client

Hi all,

We have an evault server that backups up with no issues. When I launch the java console and use the Backup / Restore function, I can see all the backup data no problem. When I log into the client, I get this error:

WARNING - SERVER <master_server> does not contain any backups for client <EVSERVER> using the specified policy type <Enterprise Vault> as requested by client <EVSERVER>

 

Now, one thing to point out is that the client name I'm using is the one reflected in Evault, and not the actual hostname of the machine.

Hostname: HOSTNAME

Evault Server: EVSERVER

When backups are launched, they are run using the EVSERVER name, and multiple child jobs are spawned which contain the HOSTNAME.  I bring this up because I have a feeling this could be the cause of the issue. However, like I mentioned, I can browse backups using the Java admin console.

If I configure the policies to backup using HOSTNAME the jobs fail.

Selective Catalog backup within 7.5

Hi again and thank you in advance for your assistance.

I have a HP-UX master running 7.5.0.6. The catalog backup is quite large and the client has not been keeping the production and matching DR servers sync'd as far as file system size. Upon arriving at the DR, the initial catalog restore failed due to not enough space. I tried to create more space, but unfortunately not enough. Is there a way to restore the catalog for only the clients I'm attempting to restore?

And, moving forward, is there a way to a catalog backup for only the clients that I wish to restore at the next DR?

I am getting this while preparing to restore.

Master server OS : Oracle linux 6.5

NB version: 7.6.0.3

 

Boot Server and client : RedHat linux 6.5

NB version: 7.6.0.3

SRT created successfully. Hostnames are resolving properly. Entries are added in /etc/hosts and bp.conf file

 

Please help to resolve this issue

My present setup is Opscenter 7.5.0.6 if if upgrade to lastest Opscenter 7.5.0.7. Also my Backup master server version is 7.5.0.7

Opscenter 7.5.0.7 version provide any extra functionality or improvements from Oscenter 7.5.0.6. ??

In my envirnoment some bkps have policy type is oracle,DB2 and for some pt is standard for DB2 ,oracle.

Netbackup upgrade for media server with staging area

I need a solution

Hi,

I need to upgrade the netbackup version on my media server from 7.5.0.6 to 7.6.0.2. Media server has RHEL as operating system and has stu configured as disk (basic disk) mainly used for staging.

Now, i am a bit confused, that if i go for ugradation of this media server, do I need to cater any special requirement. or it will be simple media server upgrade.

 

Please respond so that i can move on.

Credentials to ESX hosts, and restores

I have a question..

 

I was told at the customer forum that we should only have the credentials to vCenter Servers in the credentials section, otherwise the queries we run for an intelligent policy will query each individual ESX host as well.

Also, with both the ESX host and vCenter Server in the list, queries fail with the 69 error--I think because it is hitting each of the hostnames twice. (once when it scans the vCenter server, once when it scans the ESX host it's living on).

So, removing the credentials to each ESX server has corrected this problem. But--

My VMware admin has said that he cannot--or doesn't know a way to--restore a VM without the credentials set up in that section.

Are we missing something, or marching down the wrong path, or...?

Currently we have the hosts backed up in our VMware policy manually listed out, and we are trying to move to the intelligent policy type so we can utilize the resource limits. We are running NetBackup 7.6.0.3 on RHEL6 master/media servers.

Netbackup 7.5 recovering catalog and host properties

I need a solution

Hello all,

 

I have the following issue:

I needed to move my Netbackup 7.5 master server installation Windows 2003 32bit to a new hardware with Windows 2008R2 64 bits. I recovered the catalog after install Netbackup 7.5 in the new server.

After recovering the catalog, all is woking properly except the previously configured attributes in the Master Server host properties (such as "additional servers", "clean-up logs", VMware host, etc).

Access Control is not configured (in the original server)

Is any way to recover the catalog and maintain this attributes? Is it a normal behaviour recovering the catalog?

extending retention period for backups using the console Gui

Hi,

Question - If we wanted to extend the retention period of backups/images using the GUI is it just a matter of going into the policy and just choosing say the selection let's just say 9 months and clicking ok?

Just had to ask because everything I have read tells instructs how to do this comman line.

How to find out how old tapes are

I need a solution

Hi,

 

Is there a command in NetBackup 7.1.0.4 that I can run to tell my how old our tapes are?  We are trying to rotate out old tapes and need a way to find out how old our oldest tapes are.

 

We are running Windows 2008.

While upgrading from 7.5.0.6 to 7.6, netbackup setup proceeds till "setting file timestamps" and then it hangs for hours. Any suggestion on how to proceed?

Hi all,

I have a Netbackup Appliance 5220 7.6.0.1 and I am trying to restore a physical Windows 2008 Server to vSphere.  A VIC server running Windows 2012 is used

The restore process kicks off and successfully creates the VM and runs child restore jobs for System State, Windows/System32/config, Windows/Registration, and C drive successfully

Another child restore job for D drive starts but always fails

How Do I Restore from USB Disk

Hello everyone 

I have been backing up my servers to external usb Hard drives and i recently upgraded to netbackup 7.6

I then noticed the opscenter does not show my external usb drive under media and when i try to restore a server from 

the Drive there are no backups shown one required media so i am stuck, and have lots of servers on these drives

Hi All,

just wanted to know if anyone out there using netbackup 7.5 or 7.6 using on Redhat 7 ES. wanted to create a migration plan from 7.1 so need this info.

If so ,is it stable ?

Any thoughts on netbackup solaris 10 vs. Redhat 7 ES ?

Unable to browse backup images.

I need a solution

Hi All,

We have migrated some servers from 2003 OS to 2008 OS

The server in 2003 OS is backup using master server with NBU version 7.1.0.4 and client NBU version is same as well.

After migrating to 2008 OS we backup using NBU 7.6.0.3 master server with client NBU version upgraded to NBU 7.5.0.6

Now when I browse for images on client using 7.1.0.4 master server on client it says invalid request.

However I am able to restore images from master server but cant browse them from client BAR console.

Kindly advice.
