One Media server, multiple NBU domains?

$

I need a solution

Sorry if it's been asked before, but can a single Media server be attached to and facilitate backups for more than one Master server simultaneously?  We're trying to ween off of one NBU domain and migrate over to a newer NBU domain that is set up on different hardware and different OS than the current Master server.

Essentially, we want to keep the Media server but change the Master server and not lose any backups (if that's even possible).

The problem is, I don’t know what I am looking at.  It reads as if the jobs ran, failed, ran again and succeeded?  The first attempt looks like the second except where the ‘granted resource’ messages should be – they are not present.

How to re-store old LTO2 and LTO3 backup content into new LTO6 tapes?

I need a solution

HI all,

We want to re-store our old backups in LTO2 tapes into new LTO6 tapes. Most of the backups are filesystem levels backups and some are agnet based application level backups (i.e MS SQL and MS Exchange) taken using Symantec Netbackup.

So, what mechanisms are available for us to re-store the old LTO2 backup content into new new LTO6 tapes so that we can scrap old LTO2 and LTO3 tapes.

Assume that we have tape libraries (two) which are capable of reading LTO2 &3 tapes and writing into LTO6 tapes. Also, we already have a shared (common) storage pool, if needed.

Many thanks

Tape control why it appears the same as ACTIVE?

I need a solution

Got a couple of tapes with control being given as <MIXED> they are fully functional and the control for individual media servers appears to be no different from a tape drive that a control status of ACTIVE

Accoprding to the manual description <MIXED>   but what I see this could also apply to ACTIVE where I have four media servers -> 2xTLD, 1x SCAN-TLD, 1x ACTIVE.

"The control mode for a shared drive may not be the same on all hosts that share the drive. For shared drives each host can have a different status for the drive. The status of individual paths to the drive appears in the Drive Path column. If the control modes are all the same, that mode appears."

Any ideas where  ACTIVE control = <MIXED> control.

I need a solution

I am having an issue running the nbdeployutil command on one of my master servers. The gather will complete without issue, but when I try and run the report piece it coredumps. I have a case open with Symantec for this issue, but I would like to know if its possible to download the latest nbdeployutil and overwrite the one I currently have without having to do an upgrade. I just want the latest nbdeployutil command to see if that might help. I am currently running 7.6.0.2.

We have a mix of physical servers as well as VM's that we snapshot. I was wondering if there was a quick command I could run that isnt overly intensive that could give me a quick client count as far as how many clients we are actually backing up for reporting purposes. We are running Netbackup 7.6.0.2 here.

Did anyone faced with similar error?

HI,

I do have a problem on a media server (2008 R2). The services NetBackup device Manager and Volume Manager do not start.

As "error" i do have this in the windows event log viewer :

Failed to validate this host with the EMM server

Could not start the NetBackup Volume Manager service: La zone de données passée à un appel système est insuffisante. (122)

terminating - the operation requested has failed (163)

I've found only this KB but i've checked and everything is ok :

I need a solution

Hello Experts,

My client wants to convert physical master server(win 2003, good configuration in terms of RAM, cache memory etc) into a virtual machine win 2012(VMware based master server). we got 45 TB of front end data. 2 tape libraries and 6 NBU appliances. it is not a small data center.

I really dont know whether this decision to convert physical master server to virtual master server will do any good. I need ur views on physical master server vs virtual master server.

Please share your experience, knowledge on this topic.

I would like to know pros n cons of physical master server vs virtual master server

NetApp Snapvault... Wildcards?

I need a solution

I know that wildcards in NDMP backups is a new thing...

I'm running 7.6.0.3. We have just started using a new netapp snapvault, and it doesn't seem to like wildcards... but I can run a backup without a wildcard, and it's fine.

Is this because it's a snapvault? Here's a cross sample of the error (exit status 106):

Lotus Domino Transaction Logs backup not recycling

I need a solution

Dear Experts

The servers are setup with Transaction logs to be 'Archived' and servers are also having successful backup (although some .nsf files are not getting backed up due to file corruptions).

The question I have is , if the backup is happening successfully (we assume that the .TXN files are getting backed up) then why are the transaction log files (.TXN) not being marked for reuse which should happen after a successful backup.

Since the files are not being marked correctly the domino server is having to create new instances of .TXN and this is causing the drive to fill up. Please advise

Client details

PLATFORM = win_x64
PATCH_VERSION = 7.5.0.1
SERVER_PATCH_VERSION = 7.5.0.1

Master server & Media Servers are 7.5.0.7

Identify Netbackup images that only have one copy

I need a solution

Hi,

After upgrading the (Windows 2008R2) Master server from 7.5 to 7.6.0.3 I cannot list just the backup images that only have one copy in the Catalog. If I select Primary Copy or Copy 1 from the drop down in Catalog, images already duplicated are shown. On 7.5 the issue was not there, searching for Primary Copy only showed the images I needed to duplicate; now I see all images, even the ones with two copies (i.e. that I have already duplicated).

The Master Server have "Maximum Backup copies: 2" under Global Attributes.

Following RLeon's suggestion in this post doesn't help - everything is still listed.

Push install while upgrading solaris clients from 7.5.0.6 to 7.6.0.3

I need a solution

Hi Experts,

I am planning an NBU upgrade from 7.5.0.6 to 7.6.0.3 on Solaris 10 master server. All the Unix clients are solaris 10 based machines (around 70 clients).

I need to know the different ways to do the client upgrade from the master server to all clients at once.

Will update_clients -ClientList /clients1.txt help by passing the vi file?

I need a solution

I need some good documents related to handling tape library:

Loading scratch(tape drives) into library?
How to manage pools like monitoring scratch pool?
How to check positioning of row in which row scratch needs to be added?
How to eject tapes?

Other day to day activities in managing tape library
