Having trouble with 636 status code
I need a solution
I am having some trouble tracking down what is causing the 636 error for some backups. It only happens on backups using the DMZ media server we have here. I know you guys will want to see some logs to help with the issue so let me know what all is needed and I will gladly grab that info and share.
I am seeing this issue on several clients of varying OS's, but they all use the same media server. Just using this one client below as a baseline. I am seeing the error on both Windows and Unix clients alike. Normally when I see this its hung bpbkar processes on a Windows Server 2003 machine and I can cycle the client, stop the hung processes and then it will work, but with these ones thats not solving the issue for me.
Netbackup version on Master - 7.6.0.2
Master server OS - Solaris 10
Client OS - Solaris 10

Change Media ID drive standalone Netbackup 7.1
I need a solution
I am trying to change the media id on tapes from a different server to new media server.
I run the command bplabel -m nbt040 -d hcart3 -p sn121ahyper1 -n LTO-SEDE-POC-DRIVE2 -host poc-02.
We are using standalone tape to test, and we need to break the MEDIA_ID to change their identification . But bplabel command does this change . Is there any other command to change the ID of the new media in media server ?

Searching Individual Email

Currently we are backing up Exchange 2013 individual e-mail using MS-Exchange Server policy. It seems that the backup is working fine. I have even done a single message restore which has work fine as well. My question is there any way to do a search for a message into a specific mailbox and/or database?

Hi Everybody,
I have below queries regarding communication between Netbackup processes.
1) Why vnted is used to communicate between nbjm & bpjobd , since nbjm is multi threaded & bpjobd is single threaded.
2) In continuation to above point, when nbjm communicates with bpdbm , why nbproxy is used & why vnetd is not used, as above ?
3) What are roles of vnetd, nbproxy & pbx ?
4) Lastly what is this CORBA architecture, tried to search but didn`t get much information ?

Teradata backups on 7.6.0.3

We have a new master server running 7.6.0.3 and we want to configure teradata backups also on the server. Right now I am not seeing policy type teradata on the master server when I am trying to create teradata policy. Do we need to install some agent/plugin on the master server for this.
I know symantec has stopped supporting teradata agaent after 4.5. We have asked out teradata to get the information. In mean while I am using my connections (This forum)

I need help with migrating from NetBackup 6.5.6 to NetBackup 7.6.0.1.
NetBackup 6.5.6 runs on windows server 2008 R2 with Quantum SuperLoader 3 attached.
I want NetBackup 7.6.0.1 to run on windows server 2012 R2 along with Veeam and with Quantum SuperLoader 3 attached.
Q1> is it wise to have Veeam and NetBackup on the same server installed?
Q2> what is the proper way to migrate all catalogs from 6.5.6 to the 7.6.0.1?

It is still not clear to me what the 2 directives will backup from a Windows 2012 server.
Master and clients are running 7.6.0.3.
We have a policy that includes "ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES" and "Shadow Copy Components:\" but in the restore tab I see the local drives and "System State" just.

I have Some query. As per my understanding Netbackup uses VSS for creating snapshot in vcenter and vcenter uses vmware tools to take the snapshot.
Pls correct me if i am wrong.
1:- What is the role of VSS volume shadow copy service in taking of the backup of Virtual machines in vcenter?
2:- why netbackup does not use the vmware tools to take backup instead of VSS?
3:- Could some body tell me the concept of snapthot creation for Netbackup in vcenter?

VMware policy change via command line

Due to some reasons, I am not able to change some settings from GUI, its been taking too long to load and I had many policies to change
I am trying to make sure 'Primary VM identifier' is set to 'VM display name' instead of 'VM hostname' under VMWare tab.
Can some one please advise how I can do via command line because I could not find correct switches in the command for it.

Native Tape Library based Encryption Vs. Symantec KMS; Need some clarifications...

I would like to know whether is it possible to encrypt backups (NDMP backups) if there is encryption support built-in to the tape library (i.e. hardware based encryption) WITHOUT using Symantec Key Management System (KMS)?
If we are not to use Symantec KMS, how we should managed encryption keys? Is it directly from tape library GUI ?
What advantages that Symantec KMS would give in manageing Encryption keys with KMS?
Can we use the hardware based encryption in all LTO4, LTO5 & LTO6 tapes, provided that we have respective tape drives with adequate licenses ?
Finally, what are the versions of Symantec that support KMS?

Cannot Start NetBackUp Administration Console

Hello buddy!
I cant open My Netbackup Adm Console after installing in My Windows Server 2008 R2 DataCenter.
When I installing the Netbackup, i use custom menu, but i dont change the default value.
After finished! I run the administration Console.. And i get an error like this :
And when I Check the NetBackUp Event Manager in Services. Status is "Not Start", Startup Type is "Automatically".
So, I try to start the service, and Started, but after 3 Second the service (NetBackUp Event Manager) stopped automatically!
Always like that.. Why?
So I just Klik Continue and i get new error :
Please Help Me! I just new in Symantec Net Backup..

Do I need images on disk stu during upgrade to 7.6.0.3
I need a solution
hello,
I am upgrading from 7.1.0.4 to 7.6.0.3 and I am replacing disk storage. Do I need to copy images from the old disk storage unit BEFORE upgrade or can they be copied after upgrade ?
I am worried about the Phase1 and Phase 2 catalog conversion processes.
The reason I ask is that I have about 10TB of data on old disk storage unit and only a 1Gb link to copy through, so that means that the system will be down for over a day which I would like to avoid.

NBU 7.6.0.3 VIP SQL Transactional Logs

Hello all,
We have NBU 7.6.0.3 installed and we are backing up, with VIP (Enable SQL Server Recovery) a server that has an SQL 2012 installed. The backup with the VIP is ok, but when you try to make a Transactional log backup from the client, backup failed with the following error "sql server backup log cannot be performed because there is no current database backup".
Does anyone know how to solve this? It seems that, to make a transactional log backup, there is a full backup needed. In this case we have a full backup of the data base, but transactional logs don't recognize it.
Can anyone help me?

Status code 59 - restoring content to a VM environment

Hi all,
I've been surfing around looking into a status 59 error that I'm receiving, and figured I would lay out what I've tried, etc. My background info on my environment is Windows Server 2008 R2 for master / media servers, all are running 7.6.0.3.
I'm attempting to back up a VM environment (I'm completely new to the VM world). My backups went through fine. I'm backing up all servers in a VM cluster, and for part two of my test, I'm trying to restore a file to make sure it works. When I try to restore, I get the status 59 - access to the client was not allowed.
I disabled Kaspersky on VM center, added the particular host (owems.blahblah.edu) to the master server and the media server that is backing it up, and restarted services on both master / media server. I'm still getting this error.
On the master server, I went into Hosts -> media servers -> double clicked on this particular media server, and added the specific machine host (owems.blahblabh.edu) into the allowed servers list...
My question is - what am I overlooking here?

The backup with the VIP is ok, but if you make a manual backup of the data base and you want to restore from this manual backup, we cannot see this manual backup, we just see the VIP backup.
Does anyone know how to solve this?
