I'm trying to just do a basic restore of some data to a server and the job just seems to get to spawning child process then doesnt seem to do anything. There no indication of KBps on the job details and i left it for ages and there was no sign of the file so to me it seems like its doing nothing.

I've tried restoring data from its C drive from the same backup image and that worked fine.

I've restored a different file in the same area from anewer image and that worked.

I've tried restoring the file I cant get restored to a different server but that just ends up with the same result of stuck at spawning child process

I've tried restoring the file required to a C drive but that also ended up with the same result of stuck at spawning at child process.

I've taken bptm, bprd and some other logs but I cant see naything obvious (but maybe i am missing something)

Heres the job details:

Anyone any ideas what else I should check/do?

Version is netbackup 7.5.0.6, master/media is Solaris10, client is windows server 2008

I have a Netbackup 7.6 running on a Windows 2008, my tape library is attached to the storage and run backups only of it.

I have a weekly catalog backup running from my D$ to my F$ drives and everything is running fine, I just wanted to besides my catalog backup to F$ drive also to copy to a tape, rather to use the same tape every week.

How can I do it?

According to symantec documetation we can not virtualize media server on Vmware as it is not supported, how about the netbackup server (not netbackup enterprise server) whict still got access to tape libraries and so no?  this point is not clear for me . Will it be supported ?

I am still learning netbackup and recently I had an issue as I was not able to make both drives write data and only one of drive was being used. I searched a lot but could not find the answer.Today I managed to make both drives write, I want to share this as this might help someone.

Here is what I did:

Under the Host Properties> Select Master Servers > Properties > Global Attribute > Maximum jobs per client > change the value to 2  ( see attached screenshot.)

They are some suggestions that the Maximum concurrent write drives should be also set to 2, however mine was already set to 2 but it was not working until I changed the Maximum jobs per client from 1 to 2,but it should be set 2 as well.

Can anyone explain on how to find the tape cartridge number that was used as a backup for any specific client as we do have to restore a client and the copy is on tape and not sure if that tape is still in library or no.

As a temporary replacement of netbackup resource after some days i have to monitor if all jobs are being backed up properly.

Now i need some clarification on jobs that are shown in activity monitor. While checking the activity monitor i noticed that some jobs starts with schedule "-" and the child job then starts with proper schedule name like "DAILY-INCR". what this is all about.

For any RMAN some jobs starts with defined schedule name let say "DAILY-FULL" and some with the name of "Daily-Application-Backu" --- didnt get why.

For any RMAN and SQL for any specific policy let say the daily pattern or the daily backup consists of one parent and 5 children. For any day if one of the child job fails then we have to manually retry the job and then if all the 5 children ad 1 parent jobs are successful we will consider the backup successful for this day or no. Furthermore, for the RMAN if one child job is failed and all other succeeded and then we reinitiate the backup the earlier incomlete backup will be kept in storage or no.

Sorry if the questions are silly------just started with netbackup.

Someone wants me to restore one of our SQL Server 2008 R2 databases to a test SQL Server 2012 instance.  I've researched everything I could to this point on my own; at this point, my Google-fu is failing and I need some advice.  The following is a snippet (edited to obfuscate sensitive data) from my dbclient log during the restore (which fails with status 2809):

I have highlighted what looks to me to be the closest thing I have to an actual error message.

The closest thing I've found on Google, based on the NBU console and other logs, was http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH206956, which pertains to backwards-compatibility between different versions of SQL Server 2008.  I supposed I could see something similar being the case between 2008 and 2012, but would

1. like to find a solution, if possible
2. like to see some sort of official documentation that this isn't possible, otherwise

Dear All,

I have some full VM (hyper-V) backups which end on error 196 every week on the same day (Monday night). The easiest solution is to change the backup window but I have plenty of backup window over on other days.

When the clients misses there backup window the full backup is automatically taken the next day (Tuesday night).

I assumed that in the following week the full backup of these client would be taken on Tuesday night but instead it tries to take the full backup again on Monday night and fails again with error 196.

I toke a manual full backup during the day on Friday with the hope the full backup scheduled would shift to Friday night but this week the backup policy tried again to take the full backup on Monday night.

I read David Chapa's article. I understood that manual backup have influence on scheduled backups.

I did take a manual backup to influence the scheduled backup but it didn't work. Does this article still apply? I'm running Netbackup 7.6.0.4 on Windows Server 2008 R2.

How can I force the full backup of some clients taken on another day?

I was testing some jobs with Oracle Intelligent Policy.

I was wondering how it is possible to collect oracle metadata in that way so I can view in OpsCenter the instance backupped to be cloned.

We were used to put in the RMAN script the NB_ORA_METADATA=YES but using OIP we do not create any template.

  for testign purpose i'm using NBU 7.6.0.4 with a "possible" Object Strorage destination (S3 compatible APIs).

For some reason, in the steps to create the bucket the NBU shows up a problem, not well defined.

Would be possible to troubleshoot in details what the problem is?

How do i move to debug the cloud storage creation steps?

      I have an issue with the Backup of Cluster Server. There are 22 file systems for each node . All the 22 streams are being triggered for one server. But only 16 streams are being triggered for the other server. This backup is successful. But the 6 streams which have not been started are being triggered at a later time( with a gap of 3 hours) and failing. I would like to know the reason why the 6 streams are not being triggered at the correct time.

the media is present in the library. a pending RMAN restore is waiting for the media to be mounted. however, i can see in the device monitor that only one tape drive (i have two) is being used. the other tape drive have READY = No, Write Enabeld = No, Control = Active.

how do i manually assigned the media to this tape drive that is not doing anything?

right now in the activity monitor, the status of the restore is "Drives are in use (NetBackup HCART2)" although only one tape drive have a tape loaded.

I have just taken over the netbackup administration from a guy who just left . I noticed the use of host files If DNS works correctly then there would be no need for fudges like HOSTS files, it’s not the 1980s. and we have a very large environment so makes it unscalable

Just curious to know how you all have it configured and how best to get rid of the  hosts files
