DAG using incorrect client name for Backup ; Fails

$

I need a solution

I am attempting to back up a 3 node DAG and have a problem that appears occasionally. Each Exchange node has a Production NIC and a Backup (.bkup) NIC. When we installed Netbackup on the Exchange nodes we did so using the .bkup NIC.  For example, the Netbackup Client Properties on the exchange servers list the client as 'ExchNode1.bkup.domain.org.uk' and 'ExchNode2.bkup.domain.org.uk'.  This naming convention is identical in both the Preferred Server List within the DAG policy and also in the Client list within Host Properties.

When the DAG policy launches it spwans a child job(s) and uses the exact name of the exchange nodes listed above (presumably taken from the preferred server list). However, despite the 2nd last backup being successful using *.bkup.domain.org.uk, the last backup ran attempted to use 'Exch Node1.domain.org.uk', i.e. it drops the *.bkup.  Why is the DAG backup doing this when .bkup is specified on the client itself, within the DAG policy and also within the Host Properties on the Master server.

The parent job is giving me a 'Client Name Mismatch(39)' and I can see within the child job it's attempting to use the non *.bkup name.

San client backup says: FT client has no devices configured

I need a solution

Hello All,

Trying to setup san client backup together with my media server.
What i did already

1. Zoning, san client with storage and hba are zoned together with media server hba,

2. San client enabled for system that has storage connected.

3. Configured new backup policy.

When i start the backup:

awaiting resource advanced-disk-stu - FT client has no devices configured

Looks like i have missed something here...

I do have an advanced disk configured with slp that is used for direct san backup (on a different hba) for my esx setup (and working fine0.
Is this setup conflicting on 1 media server?

How to install 7.5.0.6 client on WS2012 where Postgresql is installed

I need a solution

I am aware that there is an EEB for 7.5GA to install on a system where Postgresql is already present;

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH182539

For WS2012 there is the special client install of 7.5.0.6 that is installed as a full version install.

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH204661

But from what we are seeing, that 7.5.0.6 kit does not have the EEB fix for an existing Postgresql installation.  Is there any way to get this to install?  I don't think that we can uninstall the application that is using Postgresql.

We cannot move to 7.6 yet as the Master Server cannot yet be upgraded, and we don't have the internal documentation and support ready to move to 7.6.

I kept retrying the restore but it failed in all 2 attempts then i recollected that in the past even after job failure in activity monitor the file was restored. This time i had no access to the restored/destination  path so i simply tried to backup the restored file and to my surprise the job performed the backup successfully. Now this is quiet surprising. Do you know anything about this issue? I have done numerous NDMP restores but never saw such issue.

Adding more library drives, how to handle max concurrent write drives

$

I need a solution

I am looking to add 4 more drives to my 6 drive LTO-5 library.  Every policy is using SLP to handle the duplication from disk to tape.  The problem we are having now is the backlog of duplication jobs waiting to get to a tape drive.

Looking through the documentation, it mentions something to the effect that if maximum concurrent write drives is set to one less than the physical number of drives, the other tape drive will be available for restores and other non-backup operations (for example, to import, to verify and to duplicate backups).

My question is about the "duplicate backups" part.  If SLP is to be the only thing accessing the tape drives, will it use the 9 drives I set, or the 1 drive I didn't?

My reasoning behind leaving the 1 drive of 10 out of the loop with the max concurrent write setting is for the sake of cataloging and restores.  Will this idea work?  Will giving Catalog/VaultCatalog its own drive (sort of) get anything out of sync if there are still duplication jobs running or queued?

We are running 7.6.0.3 on Windows.

Thank you for your input.

NetBackup Finds Library, But Not Drives Attached using NDMP

I need a solution

Running NetBackup 7.1 on Windows Server 2008 R2. I have an HP StorageWorks MSL4048 tape library with 2 drives installed. These are attached with fibre to 2 fibre channel ports on the back of my NetApp FAS2240. When I run sysconfig -t and sysconfig -m on the NetApp, it shows the 2 tape drives, and the library. When I try to discover these devices in NetBackup using the storage wizard, it only finds the robotic library, and lists the 2 drives as "unused element address". I have seen this happen once before, but that was a probelm with an old NetApp that did not have tape config files for the newer LTO5 drives. This is a new NetApp that already has the HP and IBM LTO5 drive tape config files. And the NetApp detects them successfully anyway. Any ideas why NetBackup does not? We verified that ndmp is ON, and the account name and password should be good, otherwise it would detect nothing at all. I can even unplug the fibre, and run the wizard again, and it detects nothing, so I know that is all working correctly.

Environment

Current server

OS - Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition Service Pack 2 32 Bit

Netbackup version  - 7.0 32 bit

Storage type - Tape storage

New server

OS - Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Service Pack 1 64 Bit

Netbackup version - Need to upgrade 7.6 64 bit

Storage type - Tape storage

Queries regarding migration and upgrade

1. Should we upgrade the existing Netbackup server then migrate or should we go for migration first.

2. Is it possible to upgrade Netbackup from 7.0 to 7.6 or we have to upgrade as following

     - 7.0 to 7.1

     - 7.1 to 7.5

     - 7.5 to 7.6

OR

     - 7.0 to 7.5

     - 7.5 to 7.6

3. For migration should we use Disk or Tape to backup/restore the catalog.
