I need a solution

Hello Experts,

I was changing global attributes in Master server properties. I came across

"Some Settings may not take effect until daemons or services are restarted nor will they
take effect on the currently active jobs or utilities"

1:- What are this services that gets restarted?

2:- Is such change recommended while backup jobs are running?

3:- How much time would they take to reflect the changes?

Off-Host-Backup failing after update to 7.6.0.4

I need a solution

Hi all,

I have a strange issue. Our Equallogic Off-Host-Backup is failing. I think this was after the update to Netbackup 7.6.0.4 from 7.6.0.2 but I'm not sure.

It worked perfectly fine for years and all other Backup Jobs are still running perfect. The Backup is starting and at the Equallogic I could see the created snapshot. This Snapshot remains offline and the Backup fail with the following error.

I am trying to find a way I can create a daily report to run that will show the Backup status of a specific client server.

I am not sure if this would be best achived using a SQL Query or using the Report Tools in the Opscentre.

I have tried using the opscentre to generate this report but I am not having much luck.

Any guidance would be great.

I have setup Ntebackup 7.6 on Windows 2008 R2 which is connected to Dell LTO tape library Powervault ML6000.

I have tried adding this library in Netbackup as explained in the following article  but Netbackup unable to find the device.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hzIfM-yLgA

How can I add this LTO to Netbackup? Rightnow under device manager I do not see the LTO devices listed. How should I proceed?

Windows Master and Media servers, 2008r2, Netbackup 7.6.0.4

Hello all.

I have an slp that I created and when I added the step where it writes to tape, I accidentally pointed it to an hcart storage unit, rather than an hcart3. Because the tape step of the slp cannot find hcart tapes, of course, and fails with status 96. I noticed this and corrected it, and ran nbpemreq -updatepolicies, kicked off a backup, and can see in the job details that it will not let go of looking for that hcart. In short, I need that slp job to either be permanently cancelled, or forced to see the changes I've made to correct it.

I've gone through the nbstlutil commands that I can find, and it still shows these incomplete copies that I need it to stop trying to complete.

Command to set NetBackup services to auto start in Windows

I need a solution

I'm running NBU 7.0.1 Enterprise Server. Is there a command to set the services to auto start at boot? Currently, they're all set to start manually. I would've thought that bpup would've had an option switch to address that but, apparently not. I really want to avoid having to use the Windows Services MMC to individually change the ~15-20 related services manually.

Thank you in advance.

I need a solution

We want to refresh our Netbackup server which is a Windows 2008 server with a Linux server. The Sybase database does not migrate cleanly from a Windows to Linux. We are considering creating a new master server on the Linux server and making it a master of masters. It will also serve as a media server. All subsequent backups would go to the new master. Legacy restores would be handled by the old one. Data would eventually expire on the old. My question is, could both masters share a library, or would they need to be seperate libraries ? would we have to partition the library ?

I need a solution

We want to refresh our Netbackup server which is a Windows 2008 server with a Linux server. The Sybase database does not migrate cleanly from a Windows to Linux. We are considering creating a new master server on the Linux server and making it a master of masters. It will also serve as a media server. All subsequent backups would go to the new master. Legacy restores would be handled by the old one. Data would eventually expire on the old. My question is, could both masters share a library, or would they need to be seperate libraries ? would we have to partition the library ?

VmWare backup FULL and DIFF almost same size

I need a solution

I was looking around for details of backup for one of the servers I upgraded and although the backups were successful, I noticed that they were of almost same size. This is a VM backed up using VmWare method with target as MSDP. The one big difference was number of files backed up. Full had a lot more files listed than diff backup. See example below. I checked other machines in the cluster and on other clusters too with similar observation. There are a few non-VmWare backups with target MSDP but their FULL is much bigger than a DIFF.

Is it normal that VMWare backups report similar size of data backed up? Is reporting any different for VMware in activity monitor?

This is on a NBU domain with 7.6.0.3.

Thanks.

PS: The jump from around 42GB to around 54GB of backed up data was due to temporary data being put on server. FULL and DIFF are still similar in size.

I need a solution

Hi Guys.

I have read a lot about compression.IN NBU admin guides also and in the forums.

SOftware compression is not encouraged.

I know that NBU will backup the compressed files as it is.It does not decompress before backing it up.

Now  on a Windows OS,I have  a compressed folder.:

1.what happen if compresed option is checked in policy? will that folder be decompress first ,then NBU will read the data..is it?

2.if not checked in policy?

Now  on a Windows OS,I have  a  folder.:

3.what happen if compresed option is checked in policy? decompression occurs here before backup?

4.if not checked in policy?

How to tell if a backup is running without console access

I need a solution

I am sure this one is probably pretty easy and I have just never had to address it from this perspective, but say you have a DBA who needs to do some maintenance. I run a full backup for them, but they have no way to know that its done without having access to the console. Is there anything they can do from the client side to that would allow them to see if a backup is running? Basically they could then know once it is done and start their maintenance. My first thought was possibly run bpps -a, but I'm not sure if that would be useful.
