Duplicating Tapes from a different Netbackup server

I need a solution

Hi,

For the purpose of shifting data from LTO2 to LTO6 tapes I'm in the process of testing on a dedicated Netbackup 6 server built purely for this task.

The legacy LTO2 tapes were created on numerous servers from around the world, however I have no idea what they were called. I've tested the import process from a single server I built earlier this week and that worked as one would expect. Now, if I create a backup on a different server and import it to the second server this works fine. When I use Catalog in order to find and duplicate the tape I get a message stating the following:

"INF - unexpected return value from db_IMAGEreceive: operation requested by an invalid server 37"

This leads me to believe that I can't simply import tapes from an unkown system, and subsequently duplicate them on another?

Cheers,

Steve

My library is reporting to me that one of my NetBackup tapes is going bad. I need to move the images off of that tape and pull the tape out of the library. What is the best way to do this?

Hyper-V cluster some VM's error with status code 156

I need a solution

We have a Hyper-V cluster with 3 machine nodes, using a CSV connecting to an EMC VNX on two luns.   We have two cluster volumes coming from 2 Luns off the VNX. We have two policies one for vol 3 and one for vol 4 vdh's. Each of the policies limits to 1 job per policy.   All of the vhd's on vol 3 backup with no issues.  Some, but not all of the vhd's on vol 4 fail with a status code of 156.  Of the systems that fail, they reside across all three hosts.

The bpfis log shows EXIT STATUS 4207: Could not fetch snapshot metadata or state file.

We had this happen a week ago and cleaned it up but it's back now and need to figure out why this keeps happening.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Forum,

Is there a working method (or available NBU utils/logs, etc) to track who and when changes are made to a NBU environment ?

Most NBU adminstration is done using the Java GUI, with remaining admin completed using the command line. The NBU admin su to root and then the auth.conf has all admins with the following config

 root ADMIN=ALL JBP=ALL
 * ADMIN=JBP JBP=ENDUSER+BU+ARC
 admins_name ADMIN=ALL JBP=ALL

We have NBU 7.6.0.3 on Linux Redhat 2.6

I need a solution

Hi Experts,

I used below commands to create "/var/images" on my NBU client and I created three VMs under "/var/images".

/sbin/lvcreate -L1900G -n images vg00

/sbin/mkfs.ext4 /dev/vg00/images

/bin/mkdir /var/images

vi /etc/fstab add below line

/dev/vg00/images /var/images ext4 defaults 1 2

/bin/mount -a

/bin/df -h /var/images

My NBU client is redhatlinux65 server. My NBU master server is also redhatlinux65 server.

While preparing to restore using media boot, an info poped up:

Untitled.png

After BMR restore completed, Checking filesystem failed. After reboot, I can't login to my NBU client from my laptop, can only login via iLO.

Via iLO, I checked that /var/images/* is not restored, there is only directory /var exists and there is nothing in it.

Can anyone told me what's wrong? Thanks in advance!

duplication to tape

I need a solution

Hello,

I am running Netbackup 7.6.0.1 and I configured MSDP diskpools, all the backups go to disk. Later it is duplicated to tape. But there is my problem. Duplication is very slow and it never ends. Sometimes I have more then 100 jobs in that queue which never seem to go so I just cancel them. Is it not possible to have more then one duplication jobs to the same tapedrive? My library has only one tapedrive. Also I see that the tape gets mounted over 100 times and they are in use for just a month. Is there a way to speed up the duplication process?

I always thought the images in a MSDP-pool are optimized and they should go to tape fast.

Any thoughts?

Rob

slow flashbackup of VM

I need a solution

Hello,

We have a slow backup situation while attempting to backup a drive a VM in a flashbackup policy. The VM drive is 4 TB (1.8 TB used) RDM LUN.The backup is running extremely slow  2-3 MB/Sec having backed up just 220 GB is over 20hrs, at this speed the backup is never going to complete in time. I have adjusted the read buffer ( followed the technote mentioned below) changing it from 32 to 1024 and then 2048 but it has made no difference. Please suggest if there's anything that I can do to improve the speed.

Brand new LTO6 media appears as complete and the drives path goes to down

I need a solution

Hi,

I'm not sure what's going on here. We are having the following issue with brand new LTO6 tapes.

A llitle bit of history. We have an infrastructure with LTO5 Tapes and TD5 drives, and two TD6 drives. So, we have just began to use LTO6 tapes. The policy storaged for the policy you can find in the description, was modified to use LTO6 tapes and it works fine. It only takes the LTO6 tapes. Those tapes goes to the TD6 drives as they should, but then, nothing works as expected. There is a robot operation failed, the tape appear as complete and finally, the paths on the drive, goes down.

The behaviour for the LTO5 tapes seems to be fine, so there must be some kind of misconfiguration related with the LTO6 that we are missing.

Here is the log for the operation

Replication takes so long from 5220 to win2012r2

I need a solution

A quick overview of my setup.  Primaster (main master server ) backing up data to media server. This SLP will then a 'replication" runs to another 5220 (drmaster) . both 5220 are on 7.6.0.3.   This drmaster's SLP imports from primaster and then will 'replicate' to the 2nd DR site which is a site out of state we just set up. its windows 2012 r2 server  running  7.6.1.1

there are 2 servers in my domain that the images just take forever to send to the windows site.  From primaster  to the drmaster (5220's) is performed timely, but they are on SAN.  once the drmaster sends to the windows DR site, which is over IP.....is where the problem starts.

the confusing thing is that i have other servers images that are larger and complete just fine. of course it took a few hours, but the 2 I am question has been running for days.  i had images already loaded (seeding) and have canceled the replication and let another start. But nothing changes.

any ideas on what i can check or do?

Media server installation fails due to IP address name resolution

Hi

Master server is running on Windows 2008 R2 Standard.

During the installation of NBU on a Linux 6 RedHat server (Media Server), it failed at the end due to Name resolution issue. It asked to run the following command to see if correct information is cached; /bpclntcmd -hn server

When i ran this command, i see that it has cached the wrong IP address, its the one i had before i changed it. So to correct it i am trying to clear the cache by running following command:

/bpclntcmd -clear_host_cache

It still does not do anything, the wrong IP address remains there. Would apprecitate if someone could help me out with this. Thanks in advance.

[symantec Netbackup] All Tape drives are not used effectively for Backups

I need a solution

We are running Netbackup version 7.6.2.

We have four drives and all of them are active. But when I just looked at the activity monitor, I found that only 2 of the 4 drives are actually used at any point in time. There are jobs waiting in the queue with a message ‘No Drives available’ even though they are two drives un-used.

I can see the Max Concurrent Drives is configured to be 4 in both Master and media servers.

 ./vmoprcmd -d ds

                                  DRIVE STATUS

Drv Type   Control  User      Label  RecMID  ExtMID  Ready   Wr.Enbl.  ReqId
  0 hcart    TLD                -                                         No       -         0
  1 hcart    TLD                -                                         No       -         0
  2 hcart    TLD                    Yes   H01522  H01522     Yes     Yes        0
  3 hcart    TLD                    Yes   G00006  G00006     Yes     Yes        0

Even though the drives are shown as not ready, they are being used but the problem is only two of them are used concurrently.

Due to this the backups are lagging behind...

I am relatively new to Netbackups. Any pointers on what could be the issue and how can I check it up further?
