Hi Peoples,

I am trying to configure NBAC on my netbackup. Please see below

D:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\bin\admincmd>bpnbaz.exe -setupmaster
You will have to restart NetBackup services on this machine after the command completes successfully.

So obviously i think the service is not up and so i went to the windows services and try to start it up, but was unable to. So i go to D:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\logs\nbazd\debug\ and check the file vxazd_debug.log and saw the error message below.

I also did check the vxdbms.conf and the NB_SERVER Name is as below

The server.conf file,

Also i did a check on VRTSaz.conf, i also notice that it states MasterServerHost="localhost" 

My masterserver hostname is masterserver_m

Can anyone please advise why the nbazd service not able to bring up? I do notice that the registry key name is different from the vxdbms.conf and server.conf file for the NB_SERVER.

Hi

I am encountering an error in Netbackup with the VmWare snapshot. Had a peak and i find 2 errors, 156 which is generally an error getting the snapshot, and the another error which says the following:

Critical bpbrm (pid=35437) from client SVVTPOBBE03: FTL - cannot open /usr/openv/netbackup/online_util/fi_cntl/bpfis.fim.SVVTPOBBE03_1436968819.1.0

What i dont understand is that this client is a Windows 2008 server, why is it looking up for the state file in /usr/openv...... location? Sins this client is a windows server, it should have been looking for this state file in something similar to C:/programfiles........ location.

Will appreciate help here. Thanks.

Hello all,

we have add two new Data Domain on our NBU environment, for the first "DD1" I have not any problem, but for the second "DD2" I do not able to add the credential for each media server, the error is a classic "Plugin Error".

Please can you tell me in which logs I find help ?

Some information on my environment:

- the plugin installed on media server is the last and work fine with DD1

- master server OS Linux RH

-media server OS, I tried with all media servers, Linux RH, windows 2008 R2 standards.

-I added in file hosts the two DataDomain and I able to ping.

I am trying to configure AIR between 2 clustered (win2008R2) NBU (7.6.1.2) domains.

To make that work I need to create the inter-node authentication according to that tech note:

by running bpnbaz -setupat

The command errors out with the message:

You will have to restart NetBackup services on this machine after the command completes successfully

Gathering configuration information.
ERROR: Failed to convert Netbackup Authentication Service startup type to 3.
On Windows, we are unable to convert the Security Service's start up type primarily from Manual mode to Automatic mode.

I have noticed that when I set manally the NBU authentication service to Automatic it reverts back to manual after running bpnbaz

Any idea how to make this command work properly?

We have a NetBackup 7.6.1.2 Enterprise server, running on Windows 2008 R2 x64bit. Our situation is this, we have a HP MSL8096 tape library that must be moved to another enterprise backup system to expand that's systems tape backup/restore capabilities. The the MSL8096 has LTO5 tape drives, and wrote to LTO 5 tapes. These tapes will still have valid data backup for 90 days, and need to be available for a possible restore until they expire. We have a stand alone backup device, with 2 - LTO 5 drives that is part of the current NetBackup system, and was used for backups of other systems. What is the process for me to ensure that I will be able to use the stand alone drives to recover data from tapes, in the event that data is needed?

We have a master server(UNIX) 7.6.1.1 and a Live Update Server Windows 2008 7.6.1.1 that we use to update Windows Clients. We have other master servers in our environment and at remote sites. My question is can the live update server be shared between master servers or do we have build an individual live update server for each master?  Thanks.

Environment:

Master Server: Windows 2K8 R2 - Netbackup 7.6.1.1

Media Server: Windows 2K8 R2 - Netbackup 7.6.1.1

Client: AIX 7.1 - Netbackup 7.6.1.2

Problem: We have been running DB2 backups (using Templates) for a few weeks now. We started noticing that the instances were failing to back up. When we asked our DB2 admin to recreate the templates after troubleshooting, he experienced the following error when trying to log in to the Java Console: file write failed (14). We asked him to run the application as an Admin and he still got the same problem. I tried to increase the logging levels on the client through client properties and got the same error when clicking Apply or Ok after setting the levels higher. Any ideas or advice?

If need be, here is the Detailed Status of the Parent job, a child job is never started because it fails.

Getting error while starting Veritas netbackup console.We are using Veritas server 6.5.6 on windows ser 2k8 Enterprise R2.

Error:

Netbackup has determined  that Netbackup media manager: Adaptive server anywhere-Veritas NB on host ABC are not running.not running.Than it gives 3 buttons Repair,continue and cancel. On clicking on " Repair " button it doesnt do any thing.

 Also attaching server log.

Done everything as per the blog http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/netbackup-emm-not-running but it didnt help.

Kindly suggest what can i do to resolve this isssue.

Dear All,

We are using the Netbackup 7.6.0.1 & Our virtualization is as below:
VCenter 5.5
ESX host : 4.1.x to 5.5
Some of the VM server size 1TB to 4.5TB   (All VM server disk is configured Thick provision)
And all backup are replating to Offsite (via: SLP)  (Storage: iSCSI)

Currently All VM backup is configured on netbackup and created two policies in case lage size of backup. (VM Policy: Exclude data disk & MS Windows policy for disk partation (i.e E:\  d:\  etc.. )
And below 1TB all VM server is configured with "Include all disk". 
Now I am planning to migrate the VM server from Thick provision to Thin Provision.
I asume that I will achive below after changes:
1) I will achive VM Storage free space.
2) Netbackup backup size & time will reduce.
3) Offsite replication time will and size will reduce.

Can you guide I am correct or not?
And Which format I am using Thick or Thin?

1 have locations M1 and B1. M1 have NBU appliance and a separate master server. site B1 have only 1 NBU appliance, its master is at site M1. AIR license enabled and it works fine. copy1 created at B1 then copy2 at M1.(eg SLP name B1-to-M1-daily) Both images exist on appliance. Now I have a special requirement where I want to copy NDMP backup image from site M1 to site B1. I tried to do it by nbreplicate but failed. Both appliances version 2.6, 5220

Hello Champions,

    I am new to the netbackup and need help to upgrade netbackup appliance and netbackup. We currently running NBU Appliance 2.6.02 and NBU version 7.6.0.1. We are planning to upgrade to 2.6.1.2 and NBU version 7.6.1.2. I have few questions to ask they may sound stupid but need help to understand NBU.

   We have two Netbackup master servers one is appliance and standalon master server. I was able to find appliance EEb but i could not find the NBU version image.

Do we need to install NBU appliance version first and NBU version next? if yes where can i find the NBU version 7.6.1.2?

Do I need to install both images on both servers?

     I am totally confused between appliance version and netbakcup version. Answers to my stupid questions will be appreciated.

I would like to ask what is the requirements of hyper-v host when we will backup a VM. like (CPU, RAM, etc) I know it will use some resources while running a backup. We will try the hyper-v backup from a production server.

i) A Master Server can also be a Media Server can also be a Client

ii) A Master Server is the EMM Server

iii) A Master server has to be the BMR Master Server (if one wants to use BMR)

iv) Any Master Server or Media Server or Client can be a BMR Boot Server

v) A Master Server cannot be an OpsCenter Server

...then can anyone confirm these questions:

1) Can a self installed Master (or Master/Media) Server also be a LiveUpdate server?

2) Can an Appliance Master (or Appliance Master/Media) server also be a LiveUpdate Server?

3) Can an OpsCenter Server also be a LiveUpdate Server?

4) Can a BMR Boot Server also be a LiveUpdate Server?

5) Are there any other roles which cannot be mixed?

Hi there

I've been reading up a bit about Netbackup and VMware backup and restore options and architectures, trying to find out how I could make what I've been handed run more efficiently.

The current setup consists of a Solaris 10 Master/Media server (Site 1) and a Solaris 10 Media server (Site 2). The two physical servers are on seperate sites (Site 1 and Site 2).

The VMware environment consists of 1 VCS and 4 ESXi hosts. Two ESXi hosts reside at each site (Site 1 and Site 2), and are also logically seperate with VMware datacenters. The backup host resides at the same site as as the VCS (Site 1) and both are virtual machines.

Datastores and Netbackup servers are using SAN attached FC storage.

Due to hardware and infrastructure constraints, I have to go with the hotadd backup host option. My concern is that the backup host is not in the same datacenter as the all of the VM's that need to be backed up.  Currently it seems all backup traffic goes via the LAN (not a dedicated backup LAN), which is not ideal.

Can I have two hotadd backup hosts, one at each site? Would it be of any benefit? 

Other suggestions to improve the efficiency will be appreciated.

I need a solution

I have a site who are running 7504 and have the IMAGESDB_PATH registry entry in place.  I note this is no longer supported, but it is working currently working as expected in 7504.

I will shortly be upgrading this site to 7612 - and in order to be supported I guess I should resolve this issue.  However - how should I go about this ?

Do I need to create a directory for each server (with an ALTPATH entry) on the <inst path>\db\images directory pointing to my alternate location which currently contains all of the images and then remove the registry entry ?

Prior to moving this environment up to 7612 I will be re-homing the current 7504 Master Server onto new hardware using the catalog restore approach - I note the registry entry stopped being supported due to DR related issues.  Will the catalog restore work with this registry entry in place ?
