A very quick question that I can't seem to find an answer to online:

Do I need an "Application and Database" license for each member of my DAG, or just one for each member of my DAG that I back up?

e.g.  I have a DAG with an active server at data centre 1 and a passive copy at data centre 2.
I run all of my backups from the passive copy at data centre 2.
Do I need 1 license, or 2?

I currently have enough licenses for every member of the DAG, but renewal is coming up and I was hoping that I could drop one from the renewal quote.

Hi all,
We are facing an issue while backing up  a Solaris client running on NBU 7.6.0.4. Specially we are having concern about one File system “/Backup/nas/eniq_events_vol”  which is of 1284800 KB in size taking 1:28:24 hours of time for back up to complete ,where as, another File system “/Backup/nas/eniq_pm_vol” which is of 6182432 KB size taking 1:24:41 hours of time for back up to complete.

Unable to understand why the first FS even though less in size taking more time for backup ? Can some one please help on this issue

We've got the following situation:

We are doing a ndmp backup to tape with NetBackup 7.6.1.

The selection list looks like this:

NEW_Stream
Path1
NET_STREAM
Path2
NEW_STREAM
Path3
…
NEW_STREAM
Path30

What happens is that Path2 is backuped at the end (after Path30).

We had an issue with a Tape Drive - because of this Path2 failed first of all and at the end there was a second try of Path2 what succeded because another Drive was used.

Meanwhile the defect Tape Drive was replaced but unfortunately the behaviour that Path2 is backed up at the end is still there.

We have already cleaned the selection list, restarted NBU Services, typed in the selection list correctly (as it has been before).

Then the backup ran fine with the correct order - until the second backup.

After the second try everytime Path2 is backed up again after Path30.

We have already checked the "includes" file (\INSTALL\Veritas\NetBackup\db\class\Policyname) 

There the order is also correct.

Does anyone have an idea why NetBackup is doing this?

Hi, anyone know if I can customize the error message for a certain error code.

For example: bpstart_notify failure causes "error 73: bpstart_notify failed". instead, I wanted to in the job details what logs to look for when that happens. Is it possible? I mean is there any way that i can alter the error message for a certain error code

So about a month ago we had a issue with out IBM3310.  Worked with tech and we deleted and re install the drives etc.

the only Police we have going to this drive was our lotus notes backup.

Of course I never checked and this week we seen the backups have not been running and then Policy Storage to Any Available.

That in my mind should have worked but it keep getting a error 219

It should have defaulted to any of the other storage Policy such has the VTL, or the old tape library but it didn't

Any idea on why this happened and how to fix this issue if it happens again.

I am using Netbackup 7.1.0.4 Media server with AIX 6.1 recently after the Library drives upgraded to LT04 on Quantum I500 Library the medium changer is keep disappearig from Media server.

When I do a ./scan -changer it not showing anything, then again I need to go for reconfiguring it by creating the ovpass for the control path driver and it works good for few hours then again it disappear from their and the drives turns to AVR mode.

Could you please suggest what causes the problem.

We are running NetBackup 7.6.1.1. We have several remote sites. Each remote site has a local media server and MSDP. We have one central site with another MSDP. We use VMware policies with SLPs to backup data in the remote sites to respective media servers before duplicating the data to the central MSDP. Some of our servers have large amounts of data and our SLP windows and WAN links are not adequate to complete the initial/full duplication jobs.

While I have seen lots of discussions about seeding, most of them do not seem to apply or are quite complicated. I saw one discussion about using a Basic disk to seed the central MSDP but the details were lacking. What simple options can I use to seed our central MSDP?

Something similar to this??

1. Connect a USB drive and create a storage unit of type BasicDisk
2. Create a policy to backup data to the new storage unit
3. Execute policy
4. Detach USB drive and ship it to central site
5. Attach USB drive

Then what? Do I need to expire images? Do I need to import images?

While I am not new to NetBackup, I have never had to seed MSDP so any help is appreciated.

So we are updating the master and media server from 7.6.0.2 to 7.6.0.4. I have the package downloaded as the below image :

I will run the setup or Netbackup Update to initiate the update on master server and media server. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

After the master and media servers are updated, clients need to updated. Please instruct me how to update the client.

Currently I am unable to create a Media Server Deduplication Pool.

I am using a Windows Server 2012 R2 for my Master / Media Server. NetBackup Version is 7.6.1.1

Trying to create a disk pool for deduplication using the storage server configuration wizard but ends with an error saying

"cannot connect on socket rdsm has encountered an issue with an sts corba exception: getStorageServerInfo "

The license I am using is the following: SYMC NETBACKUP PLATFORM BASE COMPLETE EDITION FLEX PACK 7.6 WIN/LNX/SOLX64 UP TO 9 FRONT END TBYTE BNDL MULTI LIC PARTNER ESSENTIAL 12 MONTHS REWARDS BAND E

The credentials I am trying to use when attempting to create the dedpulication pool is the administrator user for the master / media server.

I am sorry it is a Japanese version of Netbackup but the error basically says "cannot connect on socket. RDSM has encountered an issue with an STS CORBA exception: getStorageServerInfo" 

additionally below is what I get from the command 

nbemmcmd -listhosts -verbose

and

nbemmcmd -getemmserver

again I am sorry some of it is in Japanese but the hostname: "abtyh1mp" is the master / media server 

what am i doing wrong and why can't I create a deduplication pool? Any help would be appriciated.

Hi All,

     I have two Master server each at DC and DR. each master server has an applicane with AIR configured. I am replicating DC to DR using AIR. At DR again I am trying to use Vault profile to duplication all Monthly_Full schedule to Tape. 

     I do have approx 5 to 8 TB month end backup every month, but my Vault are not picking those for duplication.

    I was looking for info whether Vault can duplicate images which has "Image Type" as "Imported", but I do not see any such info on Admin guide or google.

    Your input will be highly appriciated...

In the Replication Director documentation for NetBackup 7.7 we need to use NetApp Plug-in 2.0 for Symantec NetBackup to backup cdot arrays, but this plug-in is not yet released by NetApp on their website.

Does anyone from Symantec knows when it will be released?

I need a bit of help. Trying to  give a user account resctricted access to Netbackup environment through the java gui on a windows client server. I have created and updated the auth.conf file on the master server however the java console is loading up all the tabs/options. What am I missing ?

We are running NBU 7.6.1

Master Server - Windows 2008

AIX Client on which oracle 10.2.0.5.0 is running.

While running backup we are getting error status 6.

Check the attachment for screen shot.

We've tried to restart the target machine which sports the error below; we also tried to stop and start the said writer, still got the same issue:

Currently using Exch Server 2013 CU6 run under Win 2012 R2 Standard, NBU 7.6.0.4 (client/server)

We have a huge Windows File Server and we never get a status 0, always status 1 for the backups and thus accelerator never runs to its full potential (always with forced rescan).

To get a list of all the skipped files should help steer us in the direction of how to deal with them. Such as excluding all files that start with ~$  as they are tmp Office files.

But the trylog as well as the media server's bpbrm log gives this entry below:

last message being suppressed after 10 occurrences

Is there any way we can un-suppress the output, so we can get a full list of skipped files? Must bpbrm's verbosity be increased?

     Bit of a strange one this !

7.6.0.3 HP-UX Master, VMware backups using SAN transport to 5230's as the backup hosts.

All was working ok.

New LUN added, made visible to the appliances, cant back any VM up on new LUN. Get the status 23 error.

My storage guy assures me LUN has same access as all other LUNs so should be ok.

Now a few other previously working backups have started to fail. Ones residing on the old LUNs !

I have enabled vxms logging up to 8 but all I see in the logs is below.

Its says disk open error. I know that, just need to know why !

I am looking for the option which will give me media label with the backup status as well.

Like in Status of backup it gives policy name, schedule name, status of backup. So along with this it should give media ID also.

Is this possible in any other tab of reporting ???

I am struggling with the huge backup and duplication queue and then the failure with 196 issue .

I  have one master (v 7.6.0.4 , linux) connect to two netbackup appliance media server (v 2.6.0.4) .

Each media server has one one storage unit of capacity 67.199 Tb.

After looking at the long active job I found 20 duplication jobs has occupied the storage unit on media server01 as for a long time and seems they were hanged after 99% of completetion due to which the backup were stuck and then failed. When I abort those Duplication jobs the backup which were in queue at that time starts writting .

Max. concurrent jobs on each storage unit is 20.

I am not able to do a ndmp restore .The filler is a emc vnx 5100 box.

I am using netbackup 7.5

I tried all the options restore everything to a differnt location and orginal location but still getting error 2850 .
