I need a solution

I am trying to restore only folder NTFS permissions and shares to a list of existing folders that had their permissions and shares blown away by staff. I have tried a few documented methods, both published Symantec documentation and other forum threads on this board, none have seem to work.

method 1) I tried creating a share_restore.txt file populating it with the below information, then executing from netbackup\bin "bprestore -s 11/4/2013 17:00:00 -e 11/4/2013 23:59:00 -f share_restore.txt" and then rebooted. shares did not repopulate.

method 2) I tried running backup, restore, & archive GUI and selecting my full backup date when shares did exist and restoring to original location and just selecting the radio button for do not replace existing files and allowing the job restore to complete and rebooted. fileshares did not repopulate.

any assistance with this would be GREATLY appreciated as there was ~35 shares that DID exist and would be very difficult to recreate all of the shares with the share and NTFS permissions.

as far i can se Backup Exec has B2V and P2V support built in but not the case with Netbackup.

Hi Folks,

I am reading the NBU admin guide both windows and unix and process flow.

However it is not clear regarding the process happening on clients.

1.We have 6.5 client.When bpbrm process on media server contact the client.Then what happens on client side for windows client?

My observation as per reading manuals :When bpbrm process on media server contact the client, it check the client services file.According to the services file entries, it tries to connect to vnetd process.(vnetd port shud be open).Then vnetd process hands over the connection to NBU client service which starts the bpcd process.

Is my above observation correct?

2. vnetd process on client opens the vnetd port or vnetd port starts the vnetd process????

3.Where we have bpcd port usage above?

NBU Client version is 6.5

windows client 2000.

i need just to understand one poitn,

my master server is an Aix , running NBU7.5.0.6

Backup windows 2008R2 all drives successful ,

Active directory restored successfully and online...

i've selected restore system disks/volumes only .... but it restored all drives !!!!

Can somone please clarify that poitn for me ??

I have extracted a NetBackup report and am attempting to assess our production estate wr.t. licenses. However I am missing a 'guide' document that can help me map the number of clients/servers/media servers/etc installed with licenses required. Is there some reference that I can use as a statring point for my assessment?

NBU7.5 can restore individual file from VADP VM image backup. (GRT)

In this caase, will restored file keep origina ACL?

How about the following each perttern.

#1. Guest OS is Windows, Backup Host is Windows.

#2. Guest OS is Linux, Backup Host is Windows.

#3. Guest OS is Windows, Backup Host is Linux.

#4. Guest OS is Linux, Backup Host is Linux.

Dear all

before I always thought that the Activity monitor information will be stored somewhere under : /usr/openv/netbackup/db/jobs

however today I did a test , I shutdown the Netbackup on the master server . and then deleted all the files\folder under ../db/jobs,

start the Netbackup services . you know what ? I still can see the old jobs information in the Activity Monitor .

ummm , confusing !

Any idea ? much appreciated !

Ich hab ein Problem mit dem globalen ein-, bzw. ausschalten des Netbackup Accelerator pro Policy.

Seit ein paar Tagen hab ich vereinzelte Probleme mit der Auswirkung des Accelerators auf einige Netbackup Clients ( hohe I/O Last auf Oracle Servern ).

Jetzt möchte ich den Accelerator auf/für ein paar Clients deaktivieren und aber für die restlichen Clients in der Policy weiter laufen lassen. - Ich suche nun nach einer Möglichkeit den Accelerator für die Policy aktiv zu lassen, aber bei vereinzelten Clients den Accelerator zu deaktivieren.

Gibt es diese Möglichkeit?

We have been requested to backup a couple of servers running sco unixware 7.1.4. and from what I have read netbackup dropped support for sco sometime back and is not supported in version 7.5 correct? Does anyone have an idea how we would get these systems backed up? our master servers are 7.5.

first of all I want to let you know that our sql backups are working properly, but we would like to know if we can make netbackup to use another user different from "sa".

as you can see there´s a "SQL userid <sa>" being used. We have changed the NetBackup Client Service Log On account, also the properties in the NetBackup MS SQL Client but we don´t see any change (rebooting client services after changes). Looking into windows registry, there are connection parameters by default for another instance in the same server which have no reference to "sa".

Is there any possible way to change this connection settings and so being able to not use "sa"?

Good morning all,

i've just realized that some tasks schedule, within policies, got missed randomly.

First cases were with CATALOG_BACKUP, some days no catalog without any errors or issues.

Today i've found a SAP FULL DB that never get started within the BU window, again without any real issues around: master up, media up, agent up, and other tasks ongoing normaly.

Where do i start to troubleshoot something like this?

Can i set an alert in OpsCenter to get some alerts, for example?

Hi Everyone,

We have existing setup of symantec netbackup 6.5.3 ( Linux ).Planning to procure NB 7.5

Planning to install new 7.5 version on new Linux box.

Now we wanna migrate all the catalog from old ( 6.5.3 version ) to new one.

Is there anyway to do so. I have read the forums and came to know that its not possible since there is differnce in major version i.e 6.5. to 7.5. and we need to migrate from 6.5 to 7.0 and then to 7.5

Please let me know the best practice and how can we get the same info of the policies/ volume pools/ catalog from old 6.5.3 to new 7.X

Hi All,

Please let me know, how to differentiate between a cleaning tape media or backup tape media ?

Reason I am asking is ?

I have got an Cleaning tape inserted in the library, but that is moved to NetBackup Pool instead of going to None pool after doing inventory.

After that I moved the media to None pool from NetBackup pool, and while run the Cleaning job the media is not being recognized as cleaning tape.

So, how can I make sure that the media is Cleaning media not the backup tape ?

We have Exchnage backup configured for individual information store groups earlier. Recently we have clubbed all together and made it as single Information store backup. But when we are running with complete Information Store backup , its differential is failing with status 130 whereas if there individual groups its been a success.

I need a solution

We are currently using Symantec Netbackup for our enterprise backup solution. Our current challenge is to find a backup solution for bunch of remote offices which not in our network. Each site has around 5 to 20 server/desktop need to be backed up (<500GB). We think iCloud may be the solution. Does anyone know if Symantec netbackup already started iCloud support? And what kind of backup solution you are using if you have same backup request?
