restore state is in pending for a long time.

I need a solution

Hi marrianne,

Now I am facing one restoration issue. When I am performing the restoration, the restore state is in pending for a long time.

In job Detailed Status, it is showing- awaiting resorce. But media is available in the library.

When I checked media status in command line, it is showing, Server Group=UNRESTRICTED_SHARING_GROUP"

For the above one, I have disabled "Enable unrestricted media sharing for all media servers" in Master server host properties.

I am very much worried about this issue and not able to find the actual cause.

For your information, I have performed Robotic Inventory also.

I will be thankful to you if you help me out in fixing this issue.

Throughput is very low for the new drives

I need a solution

Hi All,

We have bought two LTO6 Drives for HP TL4000 Library. We are having a very low throughput for backups with these drives like not more than 30MB/sec which we should actually get like around 150-160MB/sec.

Our OS is Windows 2007 SP2

We are using netbackup 7.1 for the backups.

Can someone help me to improve my drives performance. Do I need to make any configuration changes.

We are using a cleaning media which we used earlier when we had LTO4 drives. Its ID shows as CLNU00L1. Can we use this for LTO6 Drives. This may sound silly but i'm very new to this. Please help me out.

1....In NBU 6.X,communication from server to client will go through vnetd and if vnetd is not open then to bpcd?

2...IN NBU 7.X, communication from server to client will go through pbx  and if pbx failed ,then to vnetd and then to bpcd??

Is it license based now?

Has the client also need to upgarded to 7.5?

Not able to install Netbackup Client Software

I'm not able to install Netbackup client s/w, im facing error as "not able to communicate with master server, backups may not properly function", i had provided host entries, and im able instal and configure to different master server for the same clients, could any one help me on this ASAP. And please find the screenshoot of error below.

 

Master server version / OS-  7.0 / Win2003

Restore strange behaviour after using SLP duplication rule

Hello All,

Recently the backup environment that I'm responsible for, got two 5220 Symantec appliances.

Each is located in different data center (primary - APPL1 and disaster - APPL2 DC).

I've confugred SLP rule that each backup on APPL1 is duplicated to APPL2.

Everything looks fine up to the point when I want to restore something in the priamry DC from APPL1.

The catalog shows that the needed image is primary copy @ APPL1 and copy 2 @ APPL2.

However, when the restore starts, all the data is pulled from APPL2 over the network. Restore completes succesfully.

 

Anyone seen this before and any ideas how to fix it?

jnbSA always goes to Backup/Restore Window

Hi all,

 

I'm finished to install netbackup v7 on a RedHat6.2 (but the same is on CentOS).

when i run java console (jnbSA) it always switch to Backup/Restore windows. 

My conf file is this:

# cat /usr/openv/java/auth.conf
root ADMIN=ALL JBP=ALL
* ADMIN=JBP JBP=ENDUSER+BU+ARC
 
Can someone help me ?

Backup Selection

Hi All,

 

I need to take backup of some directory and subdirectories (Server is UNIX).

Directory names are /U01 .... /U25..../Unn

 

In my policy backup selection tab should i put /U* so that it can take the backup of all the directories starting with /U*

 

Also when i can select Follow NFS and cross mount in the policy tab.

ORA backup failing with EC 6

Master/Media - Linux 7.5

Client - Linux 7.0.1

File system backups are working fine. Whereas DB backups are failing with EC 6

vSphere 5.5 support extended

Hi

Saw this thread https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/vsphere-55-support and i'm not sure what that means...

1. Does Netbackup not support vSphere 5.5 (vCenter 5.5 and ESXi 5.5) at all ?

2. Does Netbackup not support vCenter 5.5 ?

3. Does Netbackup not support Esxi 5.5 - Meaning that a higher version of vCenter 5.5 is okay ?

 

And can we get i time frame? Need to upgrade out vSphere 5.x version with more than 3000+ VM and Netbackup is this only problem!

Different versions being displayed in GUI and Server

I need a solution

I installed a SAN and a LAN agent of version 7.5.0.6 on AIX and Windows server respectively. The Netbackup version on my GUI console is showing correctly 7.5.0.6 but on the Solaris server , when I use the command bpgetconfig -g <hostname>, it shows 7.5.04.

 

The solaris server is of version 7.5.0.6.

 

Please tell the problem and how to resolve it.

Remote media server on backup network

I have an interesting scenario

In a remote site i would like to create a backup network and the clients and media server of that site will have a NIC on that network. i wont all backups from clients to media to go through the backup network.

The caveat is that that the master wont have access to the backup network.

Here is the example

Master

master01 10.10.10.5

Media

media01 10.10.20.5

media01-backup 192.168.1.5

clients

10.10.20.x

192.168.1.x

The master has access to the 10.10.20.x network but not the 192.168.1.x how can i make sure the backups are going to media01-backup?

can this be done with preferred network?

Recovery from toal Active Directory failure

I need a solution

We are investigating  recovery when all Windows  Active Directory replicas have become corrupt and unuseable ( this happened to a local site recently).  The initial step should be an authoritative restore . However, we are using an  NBU master/media/client configuration  in which all components execute on platforms which are domain members, and backups, incuding domain controller system state, are stored in MSDP pools. I strongly suspect the master and media servers will not function since several services execute under the domain nbuservice account, and that recovery will not be possible. Has anyone considered this scenario ?

Hi All,

 

I m new for netbackup, So my oppologies if some mistakes in writing..

 

i m using netbackup 7.5 on a windows 2008R2 physical server and taking backup of lotus notes which is virtual machine of suse linux 11 64bit.

i m able to restore a single file from linux but when i m trying the same for lotus notes it's giving error 2820 Vmware policy error.

guys can you put some light on this issue...

Client/Policy Backup success report

Hi all,

every morning I check in Netbackup if all the backups of the last ~14 hours ran sucessful.

But I have the problem that sometimes the policy needs 2 attempts to backup up the clients, the first one fails but the client is backed up in the second attemps. So when I see a backup failure I have to manually check if there is a second attempt, and if so if that is successful.

I have OpsCenter avaliable and wonder if there is a report that shows me if a list of clients or a whole policy ran sucessful in the last x hours, regardless how many attepmts NetBackup needed, the main thing is that the client has a successful backup.

I can see there are some interesting reports e.g. client risk analysis & job sucess by client, but these reports cannot be changed to only show a specific cleint or policy.

I wonder if some NBU admins can share their knowledge. How do you check that your clients did get a sucessful backup in a give timeframe? What are your techniques to check backups?
