Trying to get Netbackup to do a backup of MaxDB on a windows host, NBU manual does not explain which prereq that is needed when it is MaxDB, and backup fails with a message that external backuptool is not found.
Does it require BRTOOLS (brbackup etc... )
Doing as manual says, but it does not work.
Do Netbackup support MaxDB newest version ?

Initiated a windows restoration after changing the hostname and encountered the "Error:Restore not initiated:operation requested by an invalid server(37)".
Chnaged the Hostname( replaced the old hostname with new hostname) in the below registry resolved the issue.

We have an issue with loading Vmware policy with query.
Vmware policy with query takes a lot of time to load, (manually with client list take a few seconds)
The policy window hang and does nothing.

Wonder if there's a way to verify that all my tapes in my Onsite pool have a duplicate on my Offsite pool. There was a way to do this on TSM using SQL commands, but I am not sure on how to do it in NetBackup.

Is anyone backing up a Barracuda 850 email archive appliance with Netbackup 7.5? I cant seem to figure out a method to access the system to back it up and there documentation is providing no assistance.
Their method is to setup an SMB share on the Email appliance and then use 3rd party software to access the share and backup the files.
I've read about doing off host backups but the appliance share access is a local account on the appliance. I can get to it from windows but Netbackup can resolve the local account.
I just upgraded from 6.5 to 7.1 and now my status of backups report is not showing the results for all the policies. It only shows the status of the catalog backup for some reason. Before I upgraded everything was working fine. I opened a ticket with Symantec but they could not figure out the issue either. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

If I backup Oracle using an RMAN script, why am I not able to browse the individual files for restore? I need to be able to browse and choose the files I want to restore, but I am unable to. However I can restore the entire backup using the RMAN script.

Does anyone know how to get round this problem; I am trying to get Exchange granular restore working, but have come up against a networking problem. I have a Unix media server that is connected to two networks, operation and management (ops, man) :

Media01.ops.net.com
The Media server’s main I/P puts it in the man network. My Exchange server is in the ops network.
Exchange01.ops.net.com
Now my problem is that when I create disk storage server and associated, storage pool it always has the owner Media01.man.net.com and when I try to do a granular restore, netback tries to get the exchange server to do a NFS connection to Media01.man.net.com (blocked by a fire wall), instead of Media01.ops.net.com . I have tried setting up a media server alias and creating the disk storage server using the “ops” name, but it just reverts to the “man” name. I could add a hosts entry to override the DNS, but I don’t really want to go down that route.

I'd like to ask about your experiences with backing up SQL DBs especially if there is possibility to mix two backup methods: 1) based on VMware snapshotting (VMware policy type) and 2) backup of transaction logs over LAN (SQL policy type).
I notice that for restore I cannot combine two types of images, for VMware type I can only make full restore without applying transaction logs.
Is it possible to combine these two types of images for restore or not?

I have just finished setting up our production environment and we have 1 month of successful backups. My next step is to set up my DR site (in production) and to enable AIR. I had a couple issues with this in my test setup a couple of months back but this time everything seems to be running great but I have a few questions if you dont mind:
I would like my daily incremental backups to have a 2 week retention and my weekly Full backups to have 1 Month retention, with the SLP I can only set a single retention unless I create a separate backup policy and SLP for the weekly. I am fine wiht this if there is no workaround and I will just set everything to 1 month and use some more storage if I have to.
Secondly, and more importantly, I would like to have a monthly backup that runs off to tape with infinite retention and the only way I can seem to do this is to create a separate schedule under each policy and override policy storage for that schedule, is this the way or is there a way from doing this from within my SLP? I would Ideally like to run one of my weekly full backups to disk and then to tape (but just once a month).
The SLP is currently configured to a Backup operation and then a secondary Replication operation.

We are facing issue while taking backup of VM on VTL. We have configured mhVTL on media server. Getting error message as "media manager killed by signal(82)". We are successfully able to take backup on disk but not on VTL.

I want to install in a Linux (Centos 6.4) Netbackup Media Server with an image from my SymAccount Connect (I've checked the md5). During the installation I'm not been asking for "Do you want to install Master or Media Server" and the installation is proceeding with Master Server installation. Do I'm missing something?

I'm trying to restore the Database, which is around 60 GB. The job gets failed with "Socket read Failed"
Error bpbrm(pid=5016) socket read failed, An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. (10054).
And I have done the below work wround, but still same issue.
What are the pros/cons with migrating our current Netbackup 7.1 server (running on Windows 2008 R2) to new server hardware running 7.6 (on Windows 2012)? Should I upgrade 7.1 on the current hardware first and then migrate?
I ahve a Master server running as a cluster on 7.5.0.6. I have opened case for a RMAN backup failure , while uploading the logs from the master server. How can i make bprd to start writing to the new log file.
