User backup failing for SQL

I need a solution

Hi 

DBA team is running backup via script and its failing with the below error

   C:\Program Files\VERITAS\NetBackup\bin>bpbackup.exe -w -t 13 -L c:\mssql\APEAPPGNK001\admsql\save\log\try.log c:\mssql\APEAPPGNK001\admsql\save\log\s
avedb.log
EXIT STATUS 48: client hostname could not be found
 

We have recently moved this client from mas1 to mas2.

Thou full and incremental backups are succesfull on this client, only user backup are failing. 

What could be the correct and where?

Many Thanks for your suggestion !! All DB2 backup worked fine and tested successfully.

But i am facing issue with an oracle backup which is failing with error code 48 (client hostname could not be found).

I tried migrating the oracle backup from old to new media server.

Followed the same steps but it's failing. Initially with 58 and now with 48.

Not sure

According to all documentation and recommendations to guide and implement the Air, start here by putting the credentials for replication.
 
By putting the credentials of the site within the B site A message appears below and can not authenticate me.

REQUIRED_INTERFACE still valid on 7.5?

I need a solution

I haven't had to use REQUIRED_INTERFACE since version 6 days, but I was recently asked if there was a way to redirect backup traffic from a client via a separate NIC, so naturally I thought REQUIRED_INTERFACE would do the trick. However, in reading the admin guide, its not clear whether it is a supported parameter, with the new REQUIRED/PREFERRED_NETWORK settings that are available.

Also, is there an NBU log that would show that the backup connection is using the appropriate interface? I know you can check the stats on the client side during the backups, but I don't have access to the clients. And on the media server side, all the data goes to the same interface, regardless of which nic the client is sending the data from.

Restores Without Reverse Resolution On Default Configuration

I need a solution

I have been tasked with an unusual requriement to "troubleshoot a success" for a customer's restore job. 

 

Master: Solaris 10 NB 7.1

Media: Red Hat 2.6 NB 7.1

Client: Windows 2008 NB 7.1 (VMware guest, VADP Flash-windows backups).

There is no reverse lookup for the client.  The master server fails to resolve anything using either of two commands:

# nslookup <client IP address>

# bpclntcmd -ip <client IP address>

The client's registry is set to the default,

REVERSE_NAME_LOOKUP = ALLOWED

Yet, we can successfully run restores from the client's Backup, Archive, And Restore Console.

From the client, I still cannot reverse-resolve the IP address with nslookup <client IP address>, but I can resolve it with bpclntcmd -ip <client IP address>.

Still, though, all Symantec documentation insists that the reverse resolution is required on all three tiers (master, media, client) for all three tiers.  Shouldn't this restore fail?

(Yes, the customer does insist on a thorough root cause for this "successful restore".  It's not worth explaining why on the forum.)

I have on policy to backup our fileserver with two partitions. We want to keep the backups two weeks, so the rention time is 3 weeks. On Friday there is at 18.00h full backup. Monday-Thursday, 18.00h diff backup. On friday morning we change the two LTO5-Tapes.

One Tape is "Full", other tape is "Active" in state.

Why cant the policy find the medias or set them to "Active"?

Need to backup Exchange 2013 archive database having only active copy from Netbackup 7.5.0.6.

Client is on W2K12 and Backup Infra on Solaris 10.

Getting following error when backup is executed.

Duplication error due to a wrong decommissioned media server

Hi All,

I need help regarding this issue. When Deduplication process start, gave me this error. It tries to use an old media server named nad0019ap10. I have tried with differents commands to remove this media server, but with no luck.

Catalog Backup/AIR

I need a solution

Curious how the functionality works with catalog backups and AIR. If I have a 2 site environment, running AIR between the two, but have tape at the primary site, how would one completely recover the tape backups at the remote site, or after the primary site came back up.

Example.

Site one dies. Recoveries begin immediatly at the DR site.

Can I recover the tape portion of the catalog at the DR site if I need to pull back from those backups? The AIR images will automagically be on the DR side, but the tape catalog information wouldn't be. Trying to plan to rid ourselves of tape if it's the case, but we do have some long-term stuff that we'd either have to import if needed, or be willing to only recover AIR images and then use cat recovery to be able to get at the long-term retention data when the prod site it up and running again.

NetBackup 7.5.0.7 is the seventh (and currently planned to be last) maintenance release for NetBackup 7.5.  It is a cumulative release containing fixes and content from 7.5.0.1 through 7.5.0.6. In addition, this release contains over 400 additional fixes (bringing the total fixes in 7.5.0.7 to well over 2000!) including the most commonly downloaded EEBs, several customer escalations, and internal engineering defects.

NetBackup 7.5.0.7 includes the following proliferations and enhancements:

MSEO restoration -LTO 4 tapes getting error in LTO5 drives

Hi Friends,

 

Currently we are taking the backup with MSEO option with following details:

OS: Sun Solaris 5

MSEO : 6.1.3

NBU: 7.1.0.4  

Role: (Master and media server)

Tape library: SL500

Drives: LTO-4 & LTO -3

 

We have installed MSEO in another Solaris Media server, it has LTO 5drives and enabled  them as MSEO drives.

 And Started the restore  with LTO -3 and 4 Tapes.

  1. We are able to restore data from LTO -3 tapes. ( Both MSEO and NON-MSEO data)
  2. Also able to restore the NON MSEO data from LTO-4 tape
  3. However, not able to restore MSEO data from LTO-4 tapes. The following error reported;

“tpperror: Robotic operation failed”

After confirmed that the drives are working fine. Again tried the restore , still it’s failing with above error.

I need a solution

In the Netbackup Administration Console 7.0.1 there is a section called Device Monitor under Media & Device Management and on the right hand pane is where is displays a list of all the tape drives and their status. One of the columns inside that pane says CONTROL and below that aligned with the drives some are stating RESTART and some say TLD and if I click on the tape drives that say TLD and open it up there is the list of 'tapes(?)' and some of those say RESTART and some say TLD. What does the RESTART status mean?

I have cycled power on the backup server and the tape library. I have unplugged the tape drives from the network and reconnected them. I am fairly new to Netbackup. I have not deleted the tape drives and added them back (i dont know how). All my drives had green arrows point up and the READY column on all the drives say NO.

 

Any thoughts?

backups getting code 71 "none of the files in the files list exist"

Hi

 we are having an issue with a client’s sever backup  that is consistently getting code 17 “none of the files exist”

In the job details “detailed status” window I see the following

Prepmspfvs1.   TRV – object not found for the file system backup: System State

(7108) System call failed – Connection reset by peer (at child.c.1298)

(7108) unable to perform read from client socket, connection may have been broken

(7073) Media manager terminated by parent process

(46996) Could not send server status message

Done.state: 71: none of the files in the file list exist

 

Hardware information

Windows server 2008 64 bit

Symantec netbackup client 6.5.2  ( I know we need to upgrade the client)

NBU master server is 7.5

Control column in Device Monitor

Netbackup 7.0.1

Windows Server 2008 R2

Within the Device Monitor is a column called Control and within that column I have 2 types of statuses, 1) RESTART 2) TLD. and when I click on the TLD I get a list of drives/tapes(?) that say the same thing. What do I need to do to get these drives ACTIVE so I can utilize all my tape drives.

Tell me what additional information you  require to assist you with my issues.

Netbackup and Truncating logs on Microsoft SQL Server

Can someone at Symantec please confirm that the following is true:  When Netbackup performs a backup of Microsoft SQL Server with the truncate logs option enabled; it will only clear out the contents of the log files and not reduce their size?
 
If this is the case, is there a Netbackup feature to both truncate and reduce the actual size of the log file on disk?
