I couldn't find a relevant section to post the LiveUpdate question. But as it relates to our use of LU for NetBackup updates, I thought the forum regulars might have pointers or solutions.

I'm upgrading the clients that we backup using NetBackup using LiveUpdate. It took a while to get the process setup to get enough success for LU but it seems to be working now. However, after the successful upgrades, the clients end up having around 740MB of cache files! I have been removing them manually by remoting in the the machines for now.

Is there a way from NetBackup admin console or via a command from master/media that I can clear the cache files?

if yes, that type of backup or restoration does it supports ? 

Do I need to install the SQL Server backup agent as well to simultaneously backup the SharePoint server and the Database on separate SQL Server box ?

My environment is NetBackup 7.6

I'm using backup to disk as main backup for part of my datacenters .

I'm using media server based on Linux conected to the storage , the volume for backup to disk is mounted and everything is working fine.

I'm working with HDS storage in my production site and I'm replicating (Dedup) to my HDS storage in the Recovery site (DR) on  layer 2

My question for you the experts is :

In case of disk /tray /storage failure in my main site (production) and let's assume that that's the only problem that I have, will it be possible to restore from disk that hold the replicated data that I need BUT have a different signature ???

* Let's assume that I'm replicating the data from the DR site to my main site ( in the opposite way) on the storage level with my storage tools - now I have data on my storage in the production site but on a disk with a different signature cause of the faiure, and the new disk is well mounted to my media server.

Is it still possible to restore the data with NetBackup ?

If yes , it will be nice to get an official link describing that procedure,

we have set "/oracle*/*/ora[0-9]/"entry in exclude_list but it didn't consider /oracle/6P/ora_backup and taking it while doing os backup, will [0-9] dont consider '_' underscore as a character.

I would like to propose a set of "golden rules" for bplist command:

1. Always specify policy type (-t).

2. Always provide relevand data range (-s, -d).

3. Mind the listing recursiveness (-R) as it may be too verbose when you just put the "/" or it may not show anything for non-file like backup types.

4. Provide as many other details as possible to speed up the search.

Template for good examples:

bplist -C <ClientName> -S <MasterServer> -t <PolicyType> -k <PolicyName> -s MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM:SS -e MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM:SS -R /

That may result in something like:

bplist -C MyClient -S MyMaster -t 4 -k OraclePolicyName -s 08/08/2014 08:00:00 -e 09/09/2014 08:00:00 -R /

Master server: 7.6.0.3, running on windows 2012.

Recently my company have purchased 1TB of platform base complete license, and I will use it to backup a SAP application running sybase database on RHEL.

To simply the work on setting up the backup job, the sybase dba recommend to perform backup daily, to export some dump files to the /backup directory. I will then use standard policy to backup those dumps files. In case of recovery I will restore those dump files, then the dba will use to recovery the database.

My concern now switched to the license capacity calcualtion. For example the dump file that export daily will be 200GB, so everyday it will have a new dump file. In this case, will my 1TB license used up quickly so that it won't let me backup anoymore once it reaches the limit? As in my understanding each dump file will be a unique new file to backup, which the backup software will treat it as a comlete new file insead of counting it as the same file. 

Or in other way, is the license trusted or there are some background calculation on the capacity to backup? Once reach the limit will it refuse to backup new data? Will it treat each dump file as a new backup unit? If yes, if I switched to use sybase agent, will the issue solved?

Had scripts to disable SLP's in Windows environment and now moved to Linux Env and would like help creating the same.  NB 7.1.0.4.  Example of Windows script:

We would like to change activity monitor logs on Linux master running 7.1.0.4.

I know we need to change these:

KEEP_JOBS_HOURS = hours

KEEP_JOBS_SUCCESSFUL_HOURS = hours

But, I have seen several ways to do this either by editing the bp.conf or using bpgetconfig command.  I assume we need to bounce NBU services as well.  Need to know proper way and steps:  Also, are there spaces between HOURS = hours?

I have a backup solution with 4 Host running OVM with Standard Clients and now we need licensing "Application and Database pack". Here is my question: do i need to buy "Client Application & Database pack" for WIN/LNX/SOL X64 or for Unix??; 

I know, the first opcion sounds logically but in another topics people have answered Unix option. i don't know why. Does anybody know?

We  backup our VMware VMs  to the DataDomain with the policy storage for 5 weeks. Then there is a request to extend it to 3 montsh.  What is the best way to do it?

1. Can we just use the bpexpdate command? Is it possible on the disk like DataDomain?
2. Tape out? By duplicating the image usig Vault to the tape with expired date 3 months? (Is it true also if we duplicate to the tape then we lost the capabilities to do GRT restore?)
3. Is there any better option?

We are using NetBackup v. 7.6.0.2

I working on a   NBU client version upgrade from  7.1 to 7.6 , I am able to sftp the binaries from master server to client but when I run the command on client for upgrading its version , its failing with the below error message .

Binaries are fine check as I already verified the  checksum also with the same binaries I am able to upgrade the other Linux client with no issue .

I am setting up a backup schedule for Oracle backups using RMAN. Template creation from the client runs successfully without an error. When I manually run the template from the master server, it executes successfully but when I check the reports, I see that number of files backed up is 0 and kilobytes is also 0.

I am using Windows Server 8 and Netbackup 7.6, Any assistence appreciated in advance.

i see on the media server and the master that bptm is tring to conect to ldap

as far as i know the only aspect of netbackup using ldap is to open the java gui

why would bptm have this warning?
