I have an environment where I have to replicate the catalog residing over SAN to the secondary site . 

Considerations : 

1) Have the same name and IP of the netbackup master 

2) DR and Primary will be build with the same patch level ( OS & NBU )

3) NIC's for DR will remain disable and will be out of network , build as an stand alone machine .

4) DNS Flush would be done 

5) 6- Databases to be replicated to the DR LUN ( */netbackup/db , */db/data , */volmgr/data , */kms , vault and var resp ) Page 58 HA guide .

Questions : ( I am referring to HA guide for Netbackup 7.5 )

1) Pg 57 pt 1 : Its asking to use a DNS alias name for master ( optimus01 is the master and domain is prime so optimus01.prime.com would help ? how ? ) since the plan is to use the same name while configuring .

2) pg 58 pt 5 ( unix ) soft link the following paths to locations on a common volume . Here the common volume is SAN LUN . So i am planning to create 6 volumes in the DISK GROUP of 3 TB LUN to match all data above in them than just linking . I am little messed up here :( 

3) pg 60 its asking to modify the vxdbms and server configuration files . What needs the modification and why ?

Please respond as this is a little urgent .

I am in a process of migrating and old MSDP (Windows 2008R2, NBU 7.5.0.4) to a new one (same OS, same NBU version). I have installed the new server, created dedup storage and configured everything to integrate the existing infrastructure. I then started the image migration using bpduplicate. Evrything worked fine for about 20 hours and suddenly I got a lot of 2016 error codes "disk storage is down", I thought that I launched too many simultaneous bpduplicate processes, but even after everything finished (with errors !) I got the same problems. I had to restart the new MSDP server and since then , I can't even run a backup on this MSDP , I got 174, 811 and 2106 erros ...

I triple-checked all hostname resolutions on Master, old MSDP and new MSDP.

 nbdevquery -listdv -stype PureDisk -U  shows that the diskpool is DOWN, he sometimes comes UP and the down again .... 

I have tried to clear all caches, restarted services on both master and MSDP

I also tried to install EEB 2975594.1 without any improvement ...

Any help will be appreciated ....

I can backup file policy from this client.

Then I install a database, create several templates. In client: Backup, Archive and Restore GUI. Administer Templates, I can see my templates.

But when I create Oracle Policy, Select Template in drop box, the templates that I create didn't show.

I think connection between client and master is OK, but I dont get why the master server cannot retrieve oracle information from client.

Is it something problem or I am missing some configuration steps?

I have a request to backup VMware template. What is the best way to go about it and how would I configure it. If possible can someone please share any relevant technote. We are running Netbackup 7.5.0.6 on a Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise Master.

I've got a VM and Application backup of Exchange following every guideline in the world, all available support articles, all rights are set OK, All config looks fine. Backup and restore works like a charm, Full VM's, Files, Databases and single mail items can be restored from one single vmdk backup. All windows eventlogs are fine (master, media, exchange, cas, clients). Everything looks swell, grand, perfect. No error messages anywhere. But no truncate. Take a look at the bpfis INF (information) entry:

But... I've still got a problem, here's the only evidence I've found is from the BPFIS log on the Exchange Client being backed up:  
"INF - INF - Exchange Transaction Logs will not be truncated by VSS because this is a pre-VM type backup"

Pre-VM type backup = what is that ? What does it actually refer to? Is my VM's or my policy wrongly configured?

A normal GRT backup via the net/client works fine and clears the transaction logs, but I was hoping to do a vmware backup, with transport type = SAN :-)

Anyone with any idea? Anything is appreciated :-)

I am facing backup issues in my environment.

SQL - SQL Server 2008 R2
Netbackup Master Version - 7.5.0.7
Client Master Version - 7.5.0.1

Issue 1 : Database logs backups are runing fine but full database backups are not working. Full keeps runing fails.
Issue 2 : Backup failed at veritas end but SQL Job keeps runing in hung state. We need forcibly stopped the SQL Agent Backup job each time.

Things we tried :-
1)  Port are checked
2) Access for veritas netbackup account at OS & SQL Server
3) Antivirus exclusion for netbackup process

Please suggest.

Hi all,

I'm trying to delete a schedule in a policy and I'm getting this error:

Error: The Database contains conflicting or erroneous entries (238)

Now, I do have 2 policies with the same schedule name. I went to the other policy to also delete this schedule and got this error:

An Invalid Entry was encountered 223.

The second policy was created a while back and was created by copying the first policy. Not sure if this has anything to do with it. Deleting schedules from other policies works fine.

Have any of you ever experienced this?

I just did a fresh NBU 7.5 install for a NBU Master server on a RHEL6 system.  The NBU domain does not currently have any media servers, and backups will be going to a Data Domain storage system.

Do I need to install the DD Boost Plugin on the Master server, or is this plugin only installed on media servers?

Currently in our environment, we have two netbackups master server in two different location, each server also have 1 media server installed and also attached with Quantum Disk in each site, all of them are installed under Windows 2008 R2 x64

Here's the setup,

DC1 :

IBM Tape Library A, with 3 LTO 5 Tape Drives
Quantum VTL A

Media-Server-A
IBM Tape Library A, with 3 LTO 5 Tape Drives (Shared with Master Server)
Quantum OST Diskpool A

DC2 :
Master-Server-B
IBM Tape Library B, with 3 LTO 5 Tape Drives

I configured two SLPs in two sites, like this:

- in DC1 I create SLP_A , first job is to backup to OST Disk with infinity retention, second job is replication to DC2 OST Disk with 1 year retention
- in DC2 I create SLP_B , first job is import with target retention, second job is duplicate to tape with retention infinity 

The Question is, when I checked the duplication result via restore job, it looks like the expired time is only 1 year, that means the retention is following the replication job in the first SLP, not infinity retention as I configured on the second SLP

What should I do so that the duplicated imported image will apply the infinity retention?

1. Master is shared with SSO option . Around 3 different account using same Master server . What if a shared Tape drive(SSO) is deleted from one environment . Is the same applicable for deleting the robotic as well (robotic control host)

2. Need to configure SLP - Total 3 copies to be configrued . 1st copy to Disk ,2nd Copy to Tape & 3rd copy to Tape(increased retention ).

       a) 1st Copy fails ,what happens to 2nd copy & 3rd Copy

       b) 1st copy success,2nd copy fails ,what happens to 3rd copy

3. To scan tape drives in different OS ,below are the coomands,

    solaris - sgscan

    ux-Aix - prtconf

    linux - lsdev -l

    Windows - scan

    HPUX -  ioscan -f
  Is my understanding correct .If not pls correct the wrong one's

4 . Yesterday , in my master server all jobs suddenly started failing with error code 2059 for multiple different environments i.e.,different media servers . Issue was fixed however vendor unable to confirm why the issue occured . And vendor gave very generic reasons . Someone have changed\tried to to changes of Robot or Drive at Hardware Level(OS) or at NetBackup level . Though Issue is fixed ,I need to provide Root Cause . Not sure which specific logs or events to be investigated .

We are using Netbackup Server  6.5.6 on Windows 2008R2.Now we have created new server on which Netbackup Server 6.5.6 installed which having different Windows version(2012R2),Hostname, IP as well as different hardware.Our concern is to replicate or migrate all the policies from previous server to new one.How can we perform this activity.I have studied few official document from symantac site ,over there found that symantac has methodology for the same.Request you please provide us help in this regard.I'll be thankful to you.

Our backup is set up to to go to VTL first and then to physical tapes via SLP. Unfortunately the volume pool with 60 day retention on VTL is getting full and we are backlogged on duplications for about 60TB. I am trying to manually expire the media in the volume pool to free up the space for upcoming large number of backups. I can use bpmedialist to find media on VTL volume pool that will expire soon and expire those first. But how do I quickly ensure the images on those media are already duplicated to physical tapes successfully?
