I need a report that display the tape content, in terms of saved file and not of backup image. This is not the same thing because these backups are huge and a single backup image resides on several LTO6 tapes.

I have been tasked with porting a backup using harware array split of a SAP database from Solaris to Linux and I know the theory of how it all works, but very little about the actual config files you have to setup for it to work.

The Linux media server is setup (7.5.06) and the NBU client has been installed on the host and the process as I understand is NBU master kicks off the following:

1. On client DB is quiesed 
2. On Media the storage is split off
3. On client DB is unquiesed
4. On Media, do the backup
5. On media resync the storage

The backup policy on Solaris has Policy Type "SAP" and script in the "backup selections" which looks as though it does all/some of the above

So the script in the "backup selections" sets some environment variables and runs:

 brbackup -u / -c -d util_file -t online_split -m all

So my questions are:

1. Does the above brbackup do all of the 5 steps above or are scripts called before and after brbackup so the brbackup is only doing step 2
2. Somewhere along the line a script called "/usr/local/bin/sap/split.sh" is called (for step 2) which is passed args like diskgroup.  How does brbackup know to call this script with the required args - I assume there is some config file somewhere
3. Likewise, somewhere along the line a script called "/usr/local/bin/sap/resync.sh" is called (step 4) which is passed args like diskgroup - where is this configured.

              2) My exchange server backup  is running very slow . Last week they ugraded the exchange patch and now backup is running at at the speed of 400 kb\s. earlier it was 10000kb\s on an average

Hi,

I was trying to search for images related to a client which is no longer backed up (policy and client are still in NBU). When searching using client (admin console GUI), I found some images ranging from 2006 - 2009 (10yr retention policy). I also noticed that the images were from two different policies and one of them is not in NBU anymore.

Searching using the existing policy brings up images for that client (only one client in policy) using that policy. However, when I try to edit the policy name to the (non-existing) policy and do a search; the result is INF - Status = found no images or media matching the selection criteria.

So my question is: does the policy and client have to be present in NBU to be able to search? The Help says "type a policy name in the box or select one from the scroll-down list" - no indication that the policy/client needs to exist in NBU.

Also, am I correct that partial policy/client names are not allowed in the search?

I have been using Netbackup for years and I just installed Check Point's Identity agent and there appears to be a conflict in ports used. I opened a ticket with Check Point and we installed a special agent and was told to include some services from a registry. I continued to add more services and this is the services:
BPINETD.EXE;BPCD.EXE;PBX_EXCHANGE.EXE;bprd.exe;bpmount.exe;bpcd.exe;bpbrm.exe;bpjobd.exe;bpdbm.exe;bpsched.exe;nbsl.exe;bpcompatd;mtstrmd.exe;nbdisco.exe;bpinetd.exe;vnetd.exe (The ones capitalized are the one's Check Point informed me to exclude)

We noticed in the last netmon capture that the traffic coming from the local server going to remote server traffic would have a high src port and 1556 as the destination. I have checked the firewall logs and no drops are seen and the backup works perfectly without the agent. When we run the backup manually it fails in either error 23 or 58. We see traffic coming to back and forth in netmon, but the communication keeps getting a push ack from the remote server. 

Is there some configuration changes that I need to do to allow this to work?

1..Can i use 'Recovery without Import " option for catalog recovery on a new master server?

i have ran a full catalog backup on old master server A.

Now i have read that in 'Recovery without Import" option ,we copy the /usr/openv/netbackup/db/images/client name folder and scp it to the new master server B on the same location.

But if its a catalog backup,then what directories i have to copy from A to B in order for 'Recovery without Import " to work? i know my catalog tapes id for master server A.

I have shipped the tapes to the master server B and inserted in the library with new barcode rules and mew volume pool.

2...Is 'Recovery without Import " only used when we are restoring  backup client data from A to B not for Catalog migration from A to B. ??

Currenlty we have upgraded to NBU 7.6.0.4 ruinning unnder windows server 2008 r2 standard. There are lots of duplication issues.

Running Netbackup Appliances on 2.6.0.3.

Having an issue where a couple of our backup clients, configured with policies that specify the ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES directive, but Exclude lists that list C:\ and S:\.  The only affected clients are configured as FT clients.  When the backups run, child jobs are created for all drives, including the c:\ and s:\ drives.  These jobs eventually fail with "(90) media manager received no data for backup image".

Has anyone come across this before or have any suggestions?

Hi - I have two Nbu domains both running 7.6 with AIR SLP's between each. The master on each domain is the DR master for the alternate domain

Site 1 has an SLP setup for the backup and replication operations and site 2 has an SLP the import and duplication.

I have a backup copy on disk for 6 months at the primary site which is replicated to disk at the secondary site and also held for 6 months. I then wish to duplicate to tape after 6 months at the secondary site when the disk image is due to expire, with the tape copy to be held for 1 year (from the backup start time).

My understanding is that the SLP at the target domain needs to have a fixed and target retention for its operations.

I want to deploy deferred duplication using the Postpone creation of this copy until the source is about to expire check box, for the duplication operation but when I save the policy I get an error 1507, Invalid deferred operation flag -

I think this is due to the source data i.e. the import operation, having to have a fixed retention.

If the SLP target’s import operation is changed to a fixed retention, we would then have to set the duplication operation to a target retention. The retention of the duplication operation therefore would be remote/the source retention and be only 6 months.

This does not give me the retention on tape using deferred duplication that I require as it is matching the source retention.

How do I set up the SLP for the target domain so that the secondary operation has a deferred and different retention to the source operation?

Performing a dissimilar BMR on the same server with the new disk results in an error loading the OS. I use the boot CD disk, then create a new configuration and mapping volume. Restoring from a new configuration with disabled restore system disks/volumes only. It goes without error. At the end of recovery the server reboots and task in console hangs on the point finalizing. OS does not boot and is not defined. Displays error system disk. If i boot from the installation disk Windovs, and try the bootrec.exe / rebuildbkd there is a error - not found a system. Version 7.5.0.7 netbackup. Master and media on Linux SUSE. Where I make a mistake?

Yesterday I repalced by LTO5 tape drives with LTO6 drives to take advatage of the higher storage capacity and evet since I have done  that I am getting very slow speeds while backing up my NDMP data on my Netapp filer.

Earlier I use to get decent speeds of 120 Mb/Sec and now its like a max of 80 Mb/Sec if I am lucky and my backups keep failing with the same error message always which is..

It is almost happening to every backup I run.. sometimes it fails after 10 hours and sometimes after 4 hours.. its pretty random..

Hi,

I am using separate scripts to perform FULL, INCR & LOG backups of the MSSQL databases. In each of the scripts I use the keyword "SQLINSTANCE $ALL" to backup all the instances.

Suppose there are 3 instances: Instance1, Instance2, Instance3. And all these instances have 1 database named "DB01".

Now, I need to exclude the database DB01 from LOG backup script of instance "Instance1". But the databases of Instance2 and Instance3 shouldn't be excluded.

Note: I already heard about excluding the databases using NB_SQL_DATABASE_EXCLUDE environment variable. But this will cause excluding the database from all 3 instances. But what I want to exclude is only "Instance1\DB01".

I''m running NetBackup 7.6 envrionment. I would like to compress old images let say clients that were backedup before 90 days. I had enabled this in master server properties and restarted NBU.

Our catalog size is 300GB and we get very less restore requests so planning to compress old catalog.

1) How would I ensure that NBU compresses the old images (by the way on my linux master ncompress is also installed)

2) There are few .lck files and I'm sure few images could be depending on older images. How would I compress in that situation

3) Suppose if I compress the catalog, will I be able to browse the image details in BAR ? so that at the time of restore i can uncompress it.

4) How much time it will take to compress or uncompress
