should i eject an active status media?

I need a solution

NBU 7.5.0.5

i have a media with an "Active" status. it contains the golden copy of a server PLUS backups of some other servers.

since i want to keep this golden copy aside, should i eject this media? if so, what would happen to the other backups from other servers that is still using this media (since the status is not yet "Full")?

will the "continuity" be broken?

I need a solution

Hello,

I have a master server with Netbackup 7.5.0.6 version.

Some of tapes from my ACS(2) robot didn't expire daily.

Image Cleanup jobs run daily successfully with status 0 but tapes stay only with media status FULL and "data expiration" over the d-day.

Someone have some idea to solve this kind of issue?

Thanks in advance,

Duplication job going to wrong media server

I need a solution

We currently have:

Netbackup 7.1.0.2 Master Server

Windows 2003

Netbackup 7.1.0.2 Media Server

Red Hat Linux 2.6.9

2 Unit tape Robot

Both the master and media server have access to the robot and the 2 tape units. Also the Red Hat media server has 16TB of local disk storage for backup. When the DSSU policy takes the images from the local disk storage on the media server to tape the jobs stream across the network to the master server instead of using the fiber from the media server. Some of the jobs were using the media server and some were using the master. I came across the article https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/dup... so I ran the nbemmcmd with the common_server_for_dup required command. Now all the jobs use the master instead of using both servers.

How can I force the media server to send the DSSU policy images directly to the tape drives instead of streaming across the network to the master server?

NB 7.5 - Installing HP-UX-IA64 HP-UX 11.31 client type software after updating to 7.5.0.5

I need a solution

Dear friends.

I have a question - Initially NetBackup Server 7.5.0.3  and some client type software was installed but not HP-UX-IA64 HP-UX 11.31 client type. Directory /usr/openv/netbackup/client/HP-UX-IA64/HP-UX11.31/ is empty. Then it was updated to 7.5.0.5. Now I have to install HP-UX-IA64 HP-UX 11.31 client type, but I can't. NB_CLT_7.5.0.5 package contains updates only and needs base installation of HP-UX-IA64 HP-UX 11.31 client type. Ok, I run ./install from NB 7.5.0.3 distributiv_dir. but get the following:

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

# ./install

...

Do you wish to continue? [y,n] (y) y

...

NetBackup Deduplication software is installed.

...

The NetBackup and Media Manager software is built for use on LINUX_SUSE_X86 hardware.

NetBackup is currently at release level 7.5.0.5.
This package will install release level 7.5.
Do you want to reinstall NetBackup and Media Manager? [y,n] (y) n

File /usr/openv/tmp/install_trace.18973 contains a trace of this install.
That file can be deleted after you are sure the install was successful.

How can I resolve this kind of problem?

What is the command to refresh the tape library?

I need a solution

Hi,

When tapes are loaded in the library, few tapes are automatically moving to "Unintialed" volume pool. We'll move those tapes to "Scratch" pool through the console.

I've written following script to move the tapes from "Unitialed" to Scratch pool.

if [ `vmquery -b -pn Uninitialed | wc -l` -gt 3 ]
then
for i in `/usr/openv/volmgr/bin/vmquery -b -pn Uninitialed | awk '{if(NR>3)print$1}'`
do
/usr/openv/volmgr/bin/vmchange -p 10 -m $i                          #10 is Scratch pool number
done
fi

This scripts fails to move those tapes in some situation. But it is working After i've refeshed the "Media and Device Management ->media" in the Netback up console.

Is there is any command to refersh it throgh the script.? Hence that my script will work without any failures.

I need a solution

Our current Netbackup Master Server is Windows 2003 x86 running Netbackup 7.1.0.2. To be able to upgrade Netbackup we need to go to a 64 bit OS so we purchased a new physical server to replace the current master server. I found the following instructions to upgrade to the new master server but I am a little concerned with the down time required.

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag...

Is it possible to add the new server as a master and then migrate the logs from our current master server to the new server while backups/duplications are still running. Then once the new master server is online take the old master server offline and reload it? Our full catalog backup takes 4-6 hours and then the time needed to install the new server and restore the catalog will take atleast a day.

Doubts about catalog

I need a solution

Hello all,

I have some problems with my nbu 7.6 catalogs. It runs on a 2008 server. The catalogs are based on my dedicated E$ drive and I want to have a copy of this drive, that will be my dedicated F$ drive. I'm reading so many things about catalogs on tapes and I'm not sure that we are talking about the same thing as I've never not been asked about my catalog location, even less for a tape copy of it, anyway, we don't intend to tape backup the catalogs, the only thing I had to do was to change the catalogs location from my C$ to my E$ that was easy and is working fine.

So I just want to backup my catalogs from one drive to another, when I try to create a policy for this it fails with error 213, saying the Storage units are not available - which is odd as I have many scratch tapes available, I have drives available, and the bottom line is: I don't even want to use a drive nor a tape for this task, so what's going on here?

Thank you very much!

VMware restores - Option to remove network interface is grayed out

In the options for a vm restore, there is an option to remove the network interface from the restored VM.  This box is grayed out, and I can not find any documentation as to why this would be the case.  Can anyone give me some things to check?

Copy of image removed from media server while RESTORE is running

I need a solution

We are running Netbackup 7.5.0.6 on a SuSE 2.6.16 Linux server. Backing up a couple of hundred servers (Linux, Solaris10, AIX, etc.)

One Netbackup Master server. One Netbackup Media server.

We have run into a situation where our database people run a backup of a production database. The backup (~800 Gb's) is stored on the media server in the basic disk storage unit (/dssu01). In the middle of the night, a restore is started that will load that backup into one of the development database servers.

Because the /dssu01 volume is quite full at this point, a duplication then copies the database backup from the temporary storage unit /dssu01 to tape.

The duplication completes successfully, THEN NetBackup deletes the "copy 1" image from the /dssu01 volume on the media server. Unfortunately, the RESTORE is still running! The RESTORE then abends with a "(83) media open error" because the image file it was using for the restore has disappeared!

This has happened a number of times. The RESTORE can be run again the next day and will complete successfully, because it will then mount the tape containing "copy 2" of the image. However, as this is an eight-hour job, the clients are more than a little annoyed at the delay. This only appears to happen to backups that are stored on the Media server. Those backups stored on the Master server are not interrupted, as it appears that the Master server is smart enough to realized that the image on it's basic disk storage unit is in use and doesn't delete it until it is finished. Alas, the Media server doesn't seem to communicate the same information to the Master server, so the image file gets removed by the Staging processes.

Has anyone else come across this? Either I need a setting that will prevent NetBackup from removing an image that is being used, or I need some command that will put a 'hold' on the image and prevent it from being deleted. I've hunted through the websites, but so far, have had no luck with it.

Thanks.

Tape drive - restart mode

I need a solution

Hi all,

I have a tape drive in 'restart' mode. I restarted services on media / master, made sure it was plugged in locally to the media server, and power cycled the tape drive itself. Are there other options I should look into? I remember some type of tape drive wizard, but cannot recall the 'how' in getting there, etc.
