In the press release it mentions that the AIR feature is now supported for cloud storage with Netbackup 7.7. I'm curious if anyone who has upgraded has tested this and been sucessful. Also, is the data being sent to the cloud fairly close in size to the locally stored data after deduplication? 

The reason I ask is because we are waiting for the 7.7 release for our applainces. While waiting, I'm researching ways to migrate our current tape-based backups to cloud-based backups for long-term retention. We are trying to keep the cost and complexity of the process to a minimum and want to avoid using 3rd party appliances if possible. If my understanding is correct, the AIR feature would allow us to send data directly from Netbackup to cloud storage while keeping the size to a minimum and without the use of a 3rd party software.

NetBackup 7.5 on Solaris.

We back up from data source to VTL and then it gets duplicated to tapes using SLP.

Scenario:
Prior to a duplication job starting, current tape status are:
Tape 1: has images from the previously successful duplications but it is not full
Tape 2: has no image; in scratch pool
Tape 3: has no image; in scratch pool

A duplication job based on SLP is launched and the tapes are used in the order of Tape 1, 2, and 3.

Duplication from VTL to physical tape library uses Tape 1 until it's full. Then it uses Tape 2 and it writes until full as well. Then it uses Tape 3 but in the middile of writing to Tape 3, the duplication job failed for whatever reason (I wonder: Is out-of-tape considered to be a failure?)

At this moment, what happens to Tape 1, 2, and 3 from the "images on media" and catalog's point of view?

My thought is:
For both images on media and in the catalog:
  Tape 1: has images on itself from the previously successful backups AND data from this dup job up until it got full; corresponding entries in the catalog are not removed.
  Tape 2: has data from this dup job and remain as 'full'; corresponding entries in the catalog are not removed.
  Tape 3: has no good data and goes back to the scratch pool; corresponding entries in the catalog are removed.

NetBackup support said because the duplication job has failed, even though Tape 1 and Tape 2 contain data from this dup job, all data on all tapes for this failed dup job are removed from the catalog AND both Tape 2 and Tape 3 go back to the scratch pool while Tape 1 is not be marked full.

If that's the case, before the duplication job fails and I took out Tape1 and 2 because they were full at that moment, Tape 1 and 2 are actually useless even though the contain images on the physical tapes. So catalog and physical media have mismatched information?

What is really happening? Could someone shed some lights on this?

I have one RedHatLinux server named "song" and I installed NetBackup client Version7.7 on it.

There are two VMs named "songM001OAM01" and "songM002DB01" residing on "song".

For these two VMs, there are directory /var/images/song/songM001OAM01 and /var/images/song/songM002DB01 on the host server "song" to save the qcow2 files.

In each VM, there is /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules file.

I create one standard policy and add client "song" to backup direcotry "/var/images/song".

My question is how can I do not backup 70-persistent-net.rules file while backing up direcotry "/var/images/song" using Symantec NetBackup.

I don't want to delete 70-persistent-net.rules file manually from each VM before doing backup.

Netbackup Version : 7.6.0.1

This backup is VMware Backup.

Virtual center able to take the snapshot..Then Backup job is failing by 13 error code.

There is client install only on VC server and not on client.

We have two servers (Windows 2008R2, nb client 7.6.0.1) and they used to be mediaservers.
Mediaserver software was uninstalled, servers rebooted and ordinary client software was installed.
Everything is working fine, except that both these servers windows eventlog is filled up with errors.
"EMM interface initialization failed, status = 333"

When I asked for the registry key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VERITAS\NetBackup"
I found this key ""EMMSERVER"="masterservername" in "CurrentVersion\Config"

Simply removing the servername or the entire key does not stop the eventlog from piling up with error messages.
Does anyone know which registry keys that also have to be deleted ?

If you have multiple vCenter servers, and their credentials are all in NetBackup, and you decommission one of them, and you don't remove the credentials, any subsequent intelligent policy backups will fail until you remove the credentials. (I would guess because any vcenter host is polled when a VM intelligent policy backup kicks off)

We have a central NBU 7.5 server running at a remote location

We have a local Windows Standard 2008 server with 6TB that we are trying to backup for the first time but the network links are only 10MB i am told and due to be upgraded to 100MB 2nd qtr 2016

Unfortunately, the backup keeps failing

Q. Is there a way to perform a one off local backup of the Windows Standard 2008 server to local media in a particular format, and then ship that to the administrators of the NBU 7.5 server to be imported ?

Once imported, we can then continue with incrementals

Is this approach possible/feasible please ?

Hi everybody!

I'm having troubles while backing up Sharepoint 2010 over Windows Server 2008 R2.

The job ends with status 2 and don't backup anything.

This is the end of the detailed status of the job.

Also I attach the bpresolver log, where I believe the problem is.

I really can't see where is the problem, I followed all the steps from the Sharepoing GRT guide (HOWTO73100) but the error still..

Recently, we have tried to backup a DB2 server at our customer's DR site. We have copied the db2.conf and online backup from the DB2 server at Production site. Every thing is the same for both of the server except for the server's name is different. So we locate the db2.conf at <install_path>/DBEXT/db2.conf and the backup script in the same location. The question is when we ran the backup, the parent job complete without the child job even running. What could be wrong? We tried to look into bphdb log but no error recorded. As for the Production server, the backup is complete successful.

This sounds like a dumb question, but I have looked high and low for a solution here in the forums as well as various vendor sites.  Nothing.  The basic problem is that our master and media servers lose connectivity to robot and tape drives within a library if the library goes offline (say, for a reboot or even hot-swap replacement of a controller board.)

Our NBU 7.6.0.4 environment consists of a master server and 22 media servers, all running RHEL 6.6.  A number of the media servers, and the master server, are zoned a Quantum i6000 tape library with 26 LTO5 drives.  We're using Emulex 8Gb HBAs throughout.

When we lose connectivity to our drives and robot occurs, the only effective resolution we've found is to then reboot all of those 23 hosts, which is obviously disruptive to our users (particularly DBAs, whose frequent backup jobs take a hit when there's no server to back up to) and time-consuming for our server team as well.

Upon reboot, all the drives return to normal operational status and are visible from the hosts we expect to see them ... device paths remain the same, etc.

Our belief is that the servers should automatically see the devices when the library (and its drives) return to normal operational status, but this isn't happening.  Is this expected behavior?   Seems to us that we ought to be capable of replacing a hot-swap controller board (or even rebooting the library) without bringing the entire environment down.

I have NetBackup environment where a dedicated Assest Management team takes care of the procurement, renewal and purchasing of licenses w.r.t our NBU. The guys are getting reminders that some of the licenses as per the Symantec Sales Order Certificate are going to expire next month in Sep-2015.

They are really not sure whether those licenses listed in Symantec Sales Order certifcate are currently being used in our NBU environment or not.

They have come to the Operations team to assist them with this information if these licenses/license keys are really in use.

They have given us Symantec Sales-Order certificate which lists the customer information, sales order number, and license keys along with quantities purchased. But I am unable to find any of such license keys which are listed in the certificate in the bpminlicense command output.

1) I would like to know if I am looking at the right place or Am I doing something wrong here?  

2) Are the license keys listed in bpminlicense command output are the only ones in use in current environment ?

4) How is this possible that none-of the licenses keys listed in Sales-order certficate matches the one in bpminlicense output ?

5) Or is there any other command/output/screen I should look out for which shows me whether the ones listed in Sales-order certficate are indeed in use or not ?

Problem existed prior to 7.7 upgrade and new license purchase.

Problem:

Vault Manager Service not working. 'Vault Management' option in the left pane of Administration Console does not appear. Service is set to Automatic with same account details as ever other Netbackup service. I can start the service but appears to have no impact. If I start the service and reboot server, the service does not start on server start up.

We get intermittent 156 errors on windows backups relating to open files and the Volume Shadow Copy service. I've read this doc about it - https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH38709.html - but have a few questions. 

I understand that Netbackup with VSS attempts to make a temporary point-in-time backup copy of an open file and then backs that up. Does it do this with all open files? What if I had a 100gb SQL database mdf file that was open, would VSS attempt to make a temp copy of it? 

If I turn off open file backups for a Windows server does that mean I get no backups of open files, including all the key exe files that the windows system and applications run? It sounds like a backup with open file backups turned off would be fairly useless if used to restore a server -  is that a fair assessment?

I have installed netbackup master and media server on server [host1] which is redhat linux server with text + GUI mode.  Then I have created on more additional media server in same network on another server [host2] which is also redhat server but only text mode is installed on it.

My both the servers [host1] and [host 2] are communicating with each other. Both haveing static ip address.

On [host2] I have install only text mode of redhat...so I am not able to open netbackup console on [host2].

I want to connect and manage [host2] Netbackup console from my [host1] Netbackup console with help of option [Host Properties - Media server (Right click) - Change server].  But change server option is not highlited. And in media server list only local media [host1] server is listed. Remote media server is not avaiable there.

What will be the issue.  How can I resolve this and will be able to manage addition media servers from master server.
