I need a solution

Hello,

I already posted a question about configuring NBAC in Netbackup 7.0 and some of you advised me to upgrade to Netbackup 7.1. I did this, and everything is okey.

Now, when following the Symantec Technotes to configure NBAC, when in configuring NBAC on media server with the command:

BPNBAZ -SETUPMEDIA -ALL -DRYRUN

I get the following error in the file : SetupMedia.NBAC

#EC_CODE(118)

And i do not find a meaning of that error on the internet

Don't know if anyone of you has already found this error and how did you solve it?

Thanks in advance!!!

I need a solution

I want to deregister the boot server of AIX 5.3.11.1 with netbackup 7.0. My master server in Windows 2008.

While I issuing the command "./bmrsetupboot -deregister"  on AIX boot server it shows the following error

[Error] V-127-72 A boot server that is currently hosting Shared Resource Trees cannot be deleted.
Please delete all the Shared Resource Trees hosted by the boot server, and retry the operation.

Could ant one give me the solution?

I need a solution

We are in SAP ECC 6 EPH 4 solaris 10, oracle 11G.

When we run backups on one of our systems, backups are in error. (Error incorrect format or option. Utl file (-p)).
We compared with others and we do not know where the problem lies.

NB7.5 Remote Backup Procedure after upgrading & changing Master

I need a solution

Environment:

NetBackup 7.5 Media Server with Puredisk and Tape Library attached. I need to backup remote site "ZXY" over a WAN Link.

History:

Previously we were backing up XYZ using Synthetic Backups to Media Server "B" with Master Server "A" in another location. We then moved to a new Master Server "A1" and media server "B1." Before moving we replicated data using SLP from B to B1. We used the following link to seed:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH144437

In particular this section:

For example, assume two new remote clients, remote_client1 and remote_client2, are being backed up for the first time. Data for both clients has been copied via a transfer drive and backed up locally to the media server media1, using a policy called “transfer_drive”.
  1. Run the following commands on the media server to setup a special seeding directory using the transfer_drive backup images for each client:

    $ seedutil -seed -sclient media1 -spolicy transfer_drive -dclient remote_client1
    $ seedutil -seed -sclient media1 -spolicy transfer_drive -dclient remote_client2

  2. Verify the seeding directory has been populated for each client:

    $ seedutil –list_images remote_client1
    $ seedutil –list_images remote_client2

  3. Run backups for remote_client1 and remote_client2.

  4. Clean-up the special seeding directory.:

    $ seedutil –clear remote_client1
    $ seedutil –clear remote_client2

Clearing the special seeding directory is important. The source backup images referenced in the special seeding directory will not be expired until they are no longer referenced. To help with this, the special seeding directory for a client will automatically be cleared whenever an image is expired by NetBackup for that client. That being said, it is good practice to explicitly cleanup the special seeding directory when it is no longer needed

Now:
We attempted to run backups but continually failed with Error 14. We had the Accelerator unticked. Due to the way our VPN's and WAN links are setup we decided to point the Client to another Media Server C1 which connects to A1 Master Server.

How should I progress with backing up the client. Shall I use the Accelerator, have Client Side Dedupe and just run a Full Backup over the link? Or shall I some how replicate from Media Server B to C1 or from B1 to C1, then follow the above link on seeding and then run a full backup?

Im a little confused on how remote backups are actually suppose to work and whether the Accelerator works on the first backup. Also whether it will use the dedupe data. Any help is appreciated.

Exclusion and include list in file system.

Hi All,

As the data size of the file system /notes/ln93_9 is too high. We have enabled multistream for the policy 2_Notes_unix_ln93app1.

And added the file sytem in the exclusion list : exclude_list.2_Notes_unix_ln93app1.Full_daily

Configured a new policy for the file system /notes/ln93_9 . which runs on first saturday of every month. Policyname : 2_Notes_unix_ln93app1_LN93_9

But my need is exclusion must happen for the file system /notes/ln93_9 in the policy 2_Notes_unix_ln93app1.

At the same time i need to include the mail database /notes/ln93_9/mail/* in the filesystem /notes/ln93_9 to be included in the same policy with the inclusion list.

Please find the exclude and inclusion list given below.

Policy Name : 2_Notes_unix_ln93app1

Backup slection : ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES

Scheduled : Daily full backup

Policy Name : 2_Notes_unix_ln93app1_LN93_9

Backup selection : /notes/ln93_9

scheduled : Full backup at the first saturday of the month.

Report Erstverwendung Bänder

I need a solution

Hallo !

Snapshot-client?

I need a solution

I just want sector-level Windows operating-system backup. With ability to make incremental backups, use NTFS journals and make Windows system databases transactions quiescene like VSS does.
Is this possible with snapshot-client? In snapshot-client documentation there is not sayed is it file-level or sector-level backup. Example regular NetBackup backup is file-level.
There is many reasons why file-level backup is not reliable. Example some software write into exact sector, write into hidden place, defragmenter made some optimization, etc.
Example Windows VSS in-box writers list is here - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/bb968827(v=vs.85).aspx#system_writer

understanding NBU and plugins

I need a solution

i'm trying to understand how all the different components fit together for NetBackup. if this is not the place, kindly point me where should i post.

years ago, backup is composed of the following:

  • backup software
  • plugins (to handle open files) like for sqlserver
  • tape drive (either single or tape library)

that was fine. now comes NetBackup and PureDisk and MSDP and NetBackup Appliance and NetBackup realtime and so on.

from this thread, https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/netbackup-media-server-deduplication it is my understanding that NetBackup and PureDisk does the same thing: backup and deduplication. and we bought both of them!

can someone please clarify (maybe provide a block diagram) of how NetBackup and PureDisk fits (or not fit).

Thanks, John

Indexing server on an OpsCenter server?

I need a solution

Hi all,

I'm trying to understand why we cannot have an indexing server on an OpsCenter server. All references I have found, states it must be installed on a media server. I my case this is not possible, as all media servers are NBU appliances, the master server is a clustered RHEL6, and the only Windows server is the OpsCenter server.

I cannot find any information why it can not be co-hosted on an OpsCenter server. After all, it is only the OpsCenter server we can use the functionaliy through, right? Is this a purely performance consideration? I can surely make the OpsCenter a dummy media server?

Any thoughts?
