Hi Symantec,

From the manual guide, I quite confuse on how to backup the Oracle database from both platform Windows & Unix/Linux.

Can anyone share the different and the steps to backing up & restore the Oracle database either to use command line using RMAN or GUI?

The Netbackup version is 7.*

I need a solution

Hi All,

I'm facing with backup job hung after upgrade the client to 7.5.0.6 version. However, the backup able to complete when we initiate it manually.

Kindly refer to the attachement:

1. hung job.txt - show backup hung since previous day till now

2. backup complete.txt - show backup completed after manual backup being initiated.

As verified with the user, no activity was ran during the scheduled job.

This is not only the server that we encountered this issue, but we have few others that have same problem.

Thanks,

Fairuz

Hello,

Last weekend, the backups failed with the status 830 and the error, All compatible drive paths are down, but media is available

While, in the NBU console, everything was green

Here is a log of the job:

Hello

Wondered if somebody had found a way to differentiate between VMs with change blocking enabled and VMs without change block tracking enabled

We have some VMs where we cannot enable change block tracking because they have snapshots on them

I am thinking to implement snapsure option to resolve this issue , we already have scheduled snapshot enabled in celerra filer, my question is will snapsure option create a seperate snapshot or it will utilize existing snapshots?

Netbackup encryption over deduplication

I need a solution

Some question for data encryption over client-side deduplication:

1. how the encryption key is created, and where is created?

2. where is the key kept (on the client, media server or master server) and how is the key being managed when encrypted backup gets duplicated to another media server

3. where does the decryption occur when restoring data, specially restoring to a different client host which is not the host that was backed up?

Thank you

I need a solution

I have a situation whereby a Physical Windows 2003 R2 Standard SP2 server will backup fine with a Differential Incremental schedule but fails consistently with a FULL schedule - status 87.

It has previously backed up OK on a FULL schedule to the 5230 several times, but all of a sudden fails every time a FULL backup is attempted.  The backup appears to work successfully and backs up around 330GB of the 624GB total before failing.  Log below:

The above job was run during a quiet time on the backup environment with only two other jobs running from different clients.

I have reviewed a number of forum posts around this but am confused as to where to look.  The above is stating memory allocation issues - on the client or on the media server (5230 in this case) ?  I have an almost identical client to this backing up successfully every time (FULL or DIFF), whwereas this one fails a FULL every time now (DIFF OK).

As can be seen I am using ACCELERATOR and Client Side DeDup (OpenStorage Client Direct) here, and all was well with great performance until now.

Is this an issue with previous backup images catalogued on the appliance ?  I have seen similar before where the same client has had upper and lower case backup images and a logiical link had to be created on the appliance which resolved the issue.  Could this be someway related ?

I am working on tpautoconf -t one of Linux server but it shows following error :

tpautoconf -t
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpclntcmd: error while loading shared libraries: libnbclientST.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I am not sure what kind of error is there is communication between client/Media/Master server look good.

I suspect that is there any patch updation or Library Licences Keys need to be update ?

Currently it is running Netbackup 7.1

Please sugest.

VMware Policy Backup - Network Connection Broken (40)

I need a solution

I have a Netbackup Environment with a Virtual Master Server running 7506 and a 5230 Appliance running 2.5.2 (7505).  There are a small number of Physical clients (Windows and Linux) and many VMware clients.

Whilst most of the VMware clients (ESX5) are working successfully (120+) I have two which are giving major problems.  The ESX LUNs are presented to the 5230 over SAN and we are authenticating to the vCenter server to control backups.  Policy type is VMWARE.

The two servers in question have a large number of files, over 1TB total size each.

One of the servers, following the backup being initiaited, performs the VMware snapshot, starts the backup job and then sits there for some time before failing with a status 40 - Network Connection Broken.  Which network conection ?  As this is a VMware policy type I am not talking directly to the VM, it is being snapped and then presented to the 5230 as a local image.  I have extended the client read timeouts on both the master and 5230 appliance with no success.

This job has run successfully in the past numerous times - both FULL and DIFF.

The other server is more promising, but runs extremely slowly and would take days to finish if let run.  This job has run successfully (FULL) twice and secured 1.6TB in 14hrs.

I note in both of the above FAILED joblogs we never get the message INF - Transport Type = san, whereas we do in the successful jobs.

I am unaware of any other changes in the environment which have been made - and in either case why would it affect only these two VM clients ?  As a test I have now installed the 7506 agent on each of the VM's and am running an MS-Windows policy typw with Accelerator enabled and Client Side Dedup to test if the job will complete in that manner.  However - I do not want to progress this way, and both jobs worked perfectly previously ??

Any pointers ?

Netbackup 7.5 import help required

I need a solution

HI All,

Im hoping that you can help me out with an issue.

I backed up data to an LTO4 tape using netbackup 7.5 and then our master server needed to be changed so a full catalog recovery was used to move the master server to a new windows 2008 box.

I now need to restore some data backed up before the master server was moved and it is not in the catalog. I have been importing all the tapes from the backup set but have come accross a few issues with some of the tapes.

When i click on import from the catalog section an error pops up straight away 191 failed, the image was not created with TIR information.

Now in 7.1 i could get around this by changing the header file but in 7.5 the header file seems to be contained within the netbackup databases.

Is there any way around this issue as we have users screaming for this data and i am struggling to restore it for them.

Many thanks in advance

Aaron

I need a solution

hi all

i'd backed up an exchange mailbox (with NBU 7.5 on Master server running Win2k3 32 bits and exchange server Win2k8 R2 SP1) and it went successfully; however when I launch BAR from master server and also directly from the exchange server, i can't seems to find the backup image for the job in BAR with message below

warning: server does not contain any backup for client using specific policy type as requested by the client

i changed the policy type for restores in BAR file -> specify Netbackup machines and policy type to MS-Exchange-Server but still get the same error; i even tried to change the restore type from Normal backup to every item appearred in the list (Archived backups, raw partition backups, true image backups, backup exec backups, point in time rollback backups) but couldn't find any of my backup image

attached were the job detailed indicated the parent and child  (snapshot.txt and backup.txt) for backup exchange were successful;  I aldo ran vssadmin list shadows in the exchange server and confirmed the snapshot been created and removed upon completion of the backup job

kindly advise

Disk Staging Schedule Netbackup 6.5.6

I need a solution

Hi,

In the last weeks we are facing problems with one of our Media Servers (Windows 2003) - sometimes the disk gets full. This happens since the disk size was reduced.

Now we investigated these problems and we found that duplication jobs are not done after the backup jobs. In the past we thougt that after every backup job a duplication job starts, because we have configured the staging schedule with the following settings:

- type calendar
- Start Window each day from 0:00:00 to 00:00:00
- Calendar schedule: Reccuring week days, select all

But it seems that duplication jobs only start each day at 00:01:00 and after that, no more duplication jobs are starting this day. So backups that complete after 00:01:00 are duplicated not before the next night 00:01:00.

Is this correct and working as intended? Perhaps we have not seen this problem because we had a significant higher disk size in the past (12TB to 3TB), so there was enough room for backups until next duplication job.

As a workaround, we set the schedule to "frequency, 1 hour"  and it seems to run fine. Manual relocation is working also, but we dont want to do manual tasks.

Is there a way to configure staging to duplicate the images directly after the backup job?

Also, i know about HWM and LWM, but this settings are not relevant for duplication but for cleaning the already duplicated images.
Is my knowledge on this correct?

Thank you all for reading this. I hope I can get a simple answer to my questions above.

Greetings from germany

Thomas

I need a solution

Hi Everyone,

I need some help to fix my netbackup media server STU not reclaiming space.

Netbackup Setup:

OS: Microsoft Windows 2008 R2

Netbackup Version : 7.1.0.4

Netbackup Master : 1

Netbackup Media Server (Tape / Puredisk) : 6

We are having problem with 1 of our puredisk media server.

Based on Disk Pool Status, Storage Pool is 99.89% Full.

2013-09-11_194426_0.png

However upon checking the Disk Reports > Images on Disk. Selecting concerned Storage STU to list all images, it shows no result or any images stored in it.

2013-09-11_194622.png

Hope anyone can help me to fix our issue. We need the Storage Unit to be avaiable again for backup.

Thanks.
