Vault Operation with HP MSL4048 Tape Library

I need a solution

I have NBU 7.5 and a HP MSL4048 tape library.  I have configured Vault for this installation and set the profile for deferred eject and deferred logs.  The vault profile ran successfully and I am ready to eject the tapes.  I have read portions of the admin guide for vault and some forums and I am looking for advice on a good method to eject approximately 12 tapes.  The tape library can have 3 slots in one of the four magazines configured as mailslots.  Should I use these mailslots to remove tapes after running a vault eject policy (which will require multiple magazine removals), or can I remove all the magazines and remove the tapes that are slated to be ejected?  I know which tapes to remove from running "Get Preview" from the Deferred Eject option in NBU Admin Console.  If I choose the latter method it sounds like NBU may not be able to keep accurate logs of what has been ejected.

Problem doing a sql cross restore.

I need a solution

Well, I am stuck in this situation where the sql pleople want to copy the productive DBs into the Testing sql server.

I tried doing a sql restore through the client, downloading the batch file, editing it to send the db to an alternate location, but I can´t get it to work.

I get error 5.

As my knowledge on sql restores is very limited, I read a bunch of articles, but could not get past this problem.

What is it that I need to configure in order to get sql cross restores working?

What user permitions should I have in case that might be the problem?

System is running:

Windows 2008 r2 master server

windows 2003 media server

Netbackup 7.5.0.4

Thanks in advance.

Use altarnte restore for specific clients

can specify specific media server to restore for specific clients?

i am looking to force restores to a specific client to use an alternate media server with out impacting other restores

when u set /usr/openv/netbackup/db/config/USE_BACKUP_MEDIA_SERVER_FOR_RESTORE it will use the same media server that did the backup.

and when its not set u can set FORCE_RESTORE_MEDIA_SERVER in bp.conf but that changes everything from that media server

There are conditions that can occur on a windows backup that can lead you to believe the backup is in progress, but it is hung indefinitely.

Example:

Hi Experts,

I have a situation where my client backup is running fine without bpcd communication. As per my previous experience, it was my understanding that we must have two way commnication on master <--> client on bpcd & nvetd port.

My client responds to master server through vnet port but not through bpcd.

Master server version. >>>>  7.5.0.4

Client version >>>>  6.5.6

Thanks

I need a solution

Hi all,

I am lookup for another (better) solution where archive log backup retention in Netbackup will preserve against RMAN obsolete delete.   Actually we run any script frequently where we do change retention for critical Oracle images to infinity. Next solution is using WORM medium as preserve against rewriting critical data after expiration :-) .

SQL restoring with transaction log

I need a solution

Hello,

I need some advise please.

We are running Symantec Netbackup 7.5.0.6 on windows server 2008 R2 SP1.

We got SQL server 2008 R2 that backup Full backup every two weeks and transaction log every hour.

Yesterday I received a request to restore the database to month ago, so I chose for the restore the last full backup and all the transaction log until the requested date. Unfortunately it failed due to this following error:

ERR - Error in GetCommand: 0x80770004.
CONTINUATION: - An abort request is preventing anything except termination actions.
DBMS MSG - ODBC return code <-1>, SQL State <37000>, SQL Message <4305><[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]The log in this backup set begins at LSN 366151000000458700001, which is too recent to apply to the database. An earlier log backup that includes LSN 366151000000379700001 can be restored.>.
DBMS MSG - SQL Message <3013><[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]RESTORE LOG is terminating abnormally.>
ERR - Error found executing <restore log "GVIYARST" from VIRTUAL_DEVICE='VNBU0-2828-356-1386781688' with  stats = 10, blocksize = 65536, maxtransfersize = 4194304, buffercount = 2, replace , norecovery>.
ERR - Error in VDS->Close: 0x80770004.

It seems that is trying to restore a recent transaction log after the DB is already restored to a later time point.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Whenever we are taking backup on IBM media we are getting slow speed it is taking around (15hrs) to complete the backup.
